Marriott-Slaterville City History January 2016 Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History January 2016 The weather in January continued to be bitterly cold for the most part, with continued storms coming in at least once a week, holding the dreaded inversions to a minimum this winter. Mayor Butler delivered his annual State of the City remarks in the January 2016 Pioneer Post Among other things he said last year was very busy with several new developments and projects. He pointed out that as our community continues to grow he continues to endorse our General Plan to control and regulate that growth. In 2015 the city received a large CDBG grant on 1700 5 to acquire property and remove and clean up a large Junk site. In 2016 a realignment and reconstruction of Pioneer Road beginning at approximately 3800 W to the Plain City boarder will occur courtesy of a grant obtained by the city. Grant applications have also been submitted for new playground equipment at the Slaterville Park, creating a historical site for the Smout Cabin, and installing a sidewalk on a portion of 1200 W and 700 S. The annual audit for the city was recently completed and our finances are secure. The City still collects no property tax and we also have an additional surplus for the future set aside. A residential recycling program was implemented beginning this month, with the majority of residents participating. This program will help our environment and reduce waste at the landfill. The Mayor also offered a "Meet Your Local Government" program which provides tours of the diverse areas of service in local government.
