Show Marriott-Slaterville City History March 2016 Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History March 2016 March came in mild like a lamb, showing beginning signs of spring. We received several storms which brought much needed moisture, as the snowpack started to melt in February due to warmer temperatures. The annual Easter Egg Hunt was held at the Slaterville Park on Saturday, March 26"^ at 10:00 am. Kids ages 1 through 8 joined in and the Easter Bunny made a special appearance. Marriott-Slaterville City has 70% of its residents participating in solid waste recycling. In one month Waste Management reported that our resident's recycling efforts saved 21 mature trees from timber harvest, freed 8 cubic yards of landfill space, conserved 4, 244 kilowatts of energy, prevented 7 metric tons of GHG emissions, and saved the use of 12, 460 gallons of water. Spring is on its way and it's time to get ready to garden. March is a great time to clean out your flower beds from last fall and prep your vegetable garden. This is also the month to plant early cold-loving vegetables such as peas, carrots, radish and onions. Now is also a good time to get your greenhouse started with seeds for May transplanting. A Rabies Clinic will be held at the Weber County Animal Shelter on April 9"^ and 23'^''from 2-4 pm. Shots are $16.00, and dog licenses and microchips will also be available. Planning Commission Meeting for March 15. 2016 was cancelled Citv Council Meeting - March 17. 2016 The Oath of Office was executed for newly elected council members for the upcoming year. Mayor Butler distributed and presented the quarterly financial report and reviewed it with the City Council. The Council adopted a Resolution approving the Natural Disaster Hazard Mitigation Plan, which identifies mitigation goals and actions to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property in the City from the impacts of future hazards and disasters. By adopting this plan the City Council demonstrates the City's commitment to the hazard mitigation and achieving the goals outlined in the Plan. The Council also approved a Resolution for a contract with Precision Aerial Imaging. The company will only charge the City if services are used. The company wili be abie to take aerial shots with a drone if needed from the air; for example, beaver dams built in ditches where it is impossible to reach from land. The City Council adopted Ordinance 2016-01 to implement a towing zone on 1700 West to 1900 West, along with a request for proposals for towing companies to enforce. Mr. Morris explained that it is illegal to park on 1700 W and the entrance of Sierra Rv. "No Parking" signs have been posted by the City, as illegal parking is blocking or impeding access to adjoining properties, making towing of illegally parked vehicles a necessity. In addition, illegally parked vehicles throughout the City constitute a nuisance, which implemented towing regulations. |
