Show The Pioneer Post Volume XVni Issue 1 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter January 2016 1570 West 400 North - Phone 801 -627-1919 - www.marriott-slaterville.org State of the City by Keith H. Butler, Mayor The last year was very busy in our community with several new developments and projects. As our community grows, I stand by our General Plan to control and regulate that growth. If a development conforms to the General Plan it can be allowed, if it does not then it is passed over. I thank our Planning Commission for their work in handling the recent development projects. I also thank our staff as we complete city projects. In 2015 the city received a large CDBG grant on 1700 South to acquire property and remove and clean-up a large junk site. This project will continue with clean-up until early 2017. In 2016, we have several projects we are working n. The city obtained a grant to realign and reconstmct Pioneer Road at the Plain City border. This is a large project that will move Pioneer Road away from the Warren Canal, remove the S-curves, replace a bridge, and prevent the road from flooding in the future. Staff is also submitting grant applicantions for new playgroxmd equipment at Slaterville Park, creating a historical site for the Smout Cabin, and installing sidewalk on a portion of 1200 West and 700 South. Our annual audit has recently been completed and our finances are secure. The City still collects no property tax. We have also set aside additional surplus for the future. After considerable time, research, and debate, Marriott- Slaterville has become one of the last cities in Weber County to commence residential recycling. Hooper City will soon be following us. The majority of residents are participating in the residential recycling program which will help our environment and reduce waste at the landfill. Many residents are interested in the various workings of our city government. As such, for the begiiming of 2016,1 am offering a "Meet Your Local Government" program that provides tours of the diverse areas of service in local government. Let me know if you have interest in any of the following areas and I will have a staff member accompany you on a tour. "Meet Your Local Government" tours are available for: justice court, city planning and administration, garbage and recycling, secondary water services, parks, public safety, fire district, sewer services. road management, and storm drains. This will be a great opportunity for those interested to learn more about how a community operates and provides services to residents. Feel free to give me a call at 801-627-1919 ext. 204 to arrange a tour in one of these areas. May each of you enjoy your new year. I hope to see you at the city events in 2016. Come introduce yourself if you don't know me. I always enjoy meeting and getting to oiow residents in the community. 2015 Community Awards Award Recipient Nominated by Good Neighbor Dorothy Slater Bodily Family Good Neighbor Sam Lower Farr Family Good Neighbor Ned Allred Multiple Families History Award Howe Family Bodily Family Youth Award Whitley Surrage Bodily Family Youth Award Syvanna Simmons Smith Family Service Award Panter Family Bodily Family Service Award DeAnn Hufstetler Bodily Family PLANNING COMMISSION TUESDAY, JANUARY 19, 2016 - 7:00 P.M. 1.
