Show 10 Student Services Academic Advisement Center Location: Student Service Center, Room 140 Telephone: 626-6752 Director: Ned Laff The Academic Advisement Center assists all students at Weber State in achieving academic success. The Center helps students achieve academically through orientation, seminars, workshops and advisement. Advisement includes the General Education program; policies and procedures of Weber State; information regarding admissions, registration and graduation; referrals to academic departments and campus support services; and additional assistance and advisement to students on academic probation and suspension. Administrative Leaders of Student Services Location: Student Service Center, Suite 160 Telephone: 626-6361 Dean of Student Development: Toni Weight Student Services departments reporting to the Dean of Student Development include: Career Services, Counseling & Psychological Services, Drug & Alcohol/Student Health Insurance, Gender Equity Technical Assistance Center, Information Technology, Learning Support Center, Retention Assistance, Services for International Students, Services for Multiculutural Students, Services for Students with Disabilities, Services for Women Students, Student Health Center, Student Support Services, Testing Center, Upward Bound, Veteran Affairs, and Veterans Upward Bound. Telephone: 626-6824 Dean of Student Life: Lee Peters Student Services Departments reporting to the Dean of Student Life include: Bookstore, Campus Recreation, Conference and Outside Area Scheduling, Dining Services, Housing and Residence Life, Shepherd Union, and Student Activities. The Dean is also responsible for behavioral Student Code compliance and is available to help students solve problems or get answers when they do not know where else to go. Assessment and Placement Location: Student Service Center, Room 266 Telephone: 626-7414 Coordinator: Jim Felt The mission of Assessment/Placement is to assess the learning skills of freshman students and to assist them in formulating an individualized development plan. The assessment program is computerized and complimented by computerized tutorial programs. Assessment areas include reading, writing, math, study- skills, career goals, academic values and critical reasoning skills. Bookstore Location: Shepherd Union, First Level Telephone: 626-6352 Manager: Dee Schenck The Bookstore sells books and supplies needed for classwork at Weber State. Paperback books, stationery, art supplies, calculators, clothing and many other items are also available. Computers and software are available to students at discounted prices. The bookstore is on campus to serve all the students' needs. Campus Recreation Location: Health and Physical Education Center (HPEC), Room 22 Telephone: 626-6972 Director: John Knight The Department of Campus Recreation is responsible for providing for the recreational needs of the students, faculty, staff and associated community members through a variety of programs and facilities. This is accomplished by involvement in the following programs: Intramurals, Informal Recreation, Sport Clubs and the Wilderness Recreation Center. Career Services Location: Student Service Center, Room 230 Telephone: 626-6393 Director: Steven Eichmeier Career Services helps students determine their career goals, find part-time and career employment, gain related work experience, and research career information utilizing a comprehensive career library. A professionally trained staff is available to assist with career planning, resume writing, interview techniques and employment strategies. This office also coordinates Cooperative Education and Internship Programs and on and off-campus job opportunities, including work-study and all hourly employment. Community Service Center Location: Department of Student Activities Shepherd Union, Second Level Telephone: 626-6349 Advisor: Christine Colestock The WSU Community Service Center strives to connect WSU students and employees with meaningful volunteer opportunities in our community. Through its referral services, the Center publishes opportunity listings, registers service hours, and provides recognition to WSU's volunteers. Computer Labs Student Computer Labs are distributed around the campus and are under the charge of various departments. In addition, Academic Computing manages the computer labs described below: Natural Science The Natural Science Learning Center has testing facilities, tutoring services, a reserve center, and a computer lab. The reserve center makes available to students the checkout of sample exams, textbooks, and reading materials. The computer lab has 52 DOS workstations. Location: SL 228 Hours: M-Th 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM, F 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Weber State University n Library The Library Learning Center has media services, a reserve desk, 9 DOS workstations, 3 MAC workstations, and an HP laser printer in the computer lab. Location: SB lower Hours: M-Th 7:30 AM - 12:00 MID F 7:30 AM - 8:00 PM Sat 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Sun 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Wattis Lab The Wattis Computer Lab has 25 DOS workstations and 2 MAC workstations. The lab is equipped with an HP Laser 4SI/MX printer, and a copy machine. Location: WB 205/203 Hours: M-F 7:30 AM - 9:00 PM Sat 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM Sun 12:00 AM - 4:00 PM Social Science The Social Science learning center has a testing center, tutoring services, a computer lab with 52 DOS workstations, and a classroom with 30 DOS workstations. Location: ED 15 Hours: M-Th 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM F 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Sat 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Counseling and Psychological Services Location: Student Service Center, Room 280 Telephone: 626-6406 Director: Dr. Richard N. Southwick The Counseling and Psychological Services Center is staffed to provide a broad range of professional counseling services to Weber State University students, staff and faculty. These services include assistance in personal, educational, or relationship issues by means of individual, couple, or group counseling. Dining Service Location: Student Union, Room 336 Telephone: 626-6087 Director: Art Taketa The Weber State University Dining Service offers a variety of dining alternatives for students, staff and faculty on campus. Catering services are also available. The Shepherd Union Building offers a variety of dining alternatives. In the Gallery, located on the third level, your dining options are: Pizza Hut Express, Firehouse Grill, Subway, Specialty Plus and the Main Event. On the lower level you will find Burger King, as well as the Wildcat Corner and Pretzelmaker. All facilities are open Monday through Friday, with limited service on Saturdays. Hours of operation vary in each location. Promontory Tower is the residential life dining facility. A variety of meal plans are available (which include breakfast, lunch and dinner) for students living in the residence halls. Meals are also available to non-resident guests on a cash basis. The Depot convenience store (located in Promontory Tower) is open during the afternoons and evenings. Diversity Center Location: Shepherd Union, Second Level Phone: 626-7424/6367 Coordinator: Sofia Garcia The Diversity Center seeks to enrich the development of the campus community by helping to expand awareness of global perspectives. Workshops, programs and resources promote and celebrate the diversity of the University. The Center affirms all students' cultures and heritages while exposing them to new people, perspectives and experiences. Housed in the Center are many student groups, including the Native American, Hispanic/ Chicano/Latino, Black, and Asian student organizations. Drug and Alcohol Program Location: Student Service Center, Room 160 Telephone: 626-6973 Coordinator: Susan Young This program focuses on education and prevention of drug and alcohol abuse. It is designed to encourage non-users of drugs and alcohol to continue to be non-users and helps users of drugs and alcohol find appropriate resources for intervention. The program also sponsors awareness activities for the general campus community. Gender Equity Technical Assistance Center/GETAL Location: Student Service Center, Room 150 Telephone: 626-6082 Coordinator: Gloria Perez-Jensen The purpose of the Gender Equity Technical Assistance Center is to: a. Render technical assistance and training to school district administrators, teachers, counselors, parents, students, and the community regarding equity issues, particularly gender equity. b. Eliminate bias and stereotyping in the classroom. c. Assist all students to become economically self-sufficient. The Center is funded by a grant through the Utah State Office of Education with Carl D. Perkins Vocational funds and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, sex, or handicapping condition. Health Insurance for Students Location: Shepherd Union, Room 359 moving to Student Service Center, Room 160 Telephone: 626-7562 Coordinator: Susan Young The student Health Insurance plan exists to supplement the services of the WSU Health Center by providing comprehensive health insurance that meets the needs of most students at economical costs.
