Show 42 43 Program Components In order to assist students in achieving these goals, the FYE Program includes the following components: • clustered-course learning communities Each FYE student will register, along with 24 other FYE students, for three courses each quarter throughout the first year. These courses will help satisfy general education and elective graduation requirements. Students may also take additional courses, outside the "cluster" courses, to meet major or minor requirements. • year-long orientation course One of the "cluster" courses is a four-credit university orientation course which extends over two quarters. The orientation course will help FYE students improve their academic study skills (note- taking, test-taking, time management), assist them in choosing a career and a major, and ease their transition into Weber State University. This orientation course counts as an elective toward graduation. • assigned faculty advisor Each FYE student will be assigned one of the fall quarter cluster faculty as an advisor for the duration of the first year. Advisors and FYE students will meet several times each quarter to discuss the students' progress in school. • peer mentor FYE students will be provided with access to returning Weber State students who will serve as their mentors. Mentors will provide FYE students with an "insider's" view of Weber State. Program Requirements A student may make application for the FYE Program at any time after formal acceptance into Weber State University. FYE students must be first-time or advanced standing freshmen, and are strongly encourage to enroll in clustered-course learning communities for three consecutive quarters.
