Show tbr <= eens £0 Ronald E. Hill, '70, was elected president of the board for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northern Utah. He has served as a Big Brother for three years. He has been a teacher with the Weber School District for 17 years. He is currently serving as a director in public health for UNICEF-United Nations. 1960's - J. Ben Johanson, '65, has received a special performance award at the University of California at Riverside. He was recognized as one of the five most outstanding employees in the Department of Soils and Environmental Sciences. He has coauthored numerous publications on soil chemistry research during the past 16 years. He received his master’s degree at Utah State University. He is married to Kay Scifnes. They have one son, Michael age 7, and one daughter, Katie Lyn age 2. Bruce Bothwell, ‘69, has been appointed director of the Lincoln Alternative School at Clinton, Ut. It is a school of 100 students in grades 9-12 who are dropouts or potential dropouts. He heads a staff of four full-time and three part-timers. This is the first year of operation in a separate building from Clinton High School. Dr. Kenneth Knight, ‘69, ‘73, professor of physical education and athletic trainer at Indiana State University, authored a recently published book titled Cryotherapy: Theory, Technique and Physiology. The book is the culmination of 12 years of reseach into cold therapy. While the : use of icepacks in immediate care of sports injuries is the most well known type of cryotherapy, other techniques of cold therapy are used during rehabilitation and for some surgical purposes. Knight received his Ph.D. in exercise physiology from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Knight is a fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine and has had several articles published in various magazines and journals. 1970's David J. Dunning, ‘70, has just started a manufacturing company in Springfield, Utah. The company will produce parts and machinery for larger companies on a contract basis. ) "Weber's education is very helpful. Michels, ‘76, was selected as the Air Force Association-Texas Officer of the Year during the recent state convention held in Austin, Tx. He was specifically cited for outstanding leadership and scholarship while attending Texas A&M University in pursuit of a doctoral degree in industiral engineering. He was the senior graduate research associate assigned on several large information management projects dealing with such technologies as Expert Systems and Artiticial Intelligence. He was selected as the first vice president of the Operations Research Society of America, a student chapter dealing with the application of advanced mathematical techniques for industrial uses. Cecilia Swenson, ‘79, has been appointed accounts payable manager for Price Savers Membership Warehouse. Swenson comes to Price Savers from Volvo White Truck Corporation in Ogden, where she was supervisor of general accounting. She has also worked for ABEX Corporation, Jetway Division. She is currently on the audit committee of Golden West Credit Union. She is a CPA. Patrick J. Clemens, ’79, has been accepted by the Department of Defense Dependent Schools to teach in Athens, Greece for two years. Jim received his master’s degree in education in 1984 and has been teaching for the Weber School District for the past six years. Dr. Don M. Wayment, '79, received his Doctor of Osteopathy degree at the University of Health Sciences—College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 19, 1985. He will serve a one-year internship at Doctors Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. 198O’s Jay M. Moyes, '77, has been promoted to senior manager within the management group of Peat Marwick, the international accounting firm. Moyes is in the accounting and auditing department of the Salt Lake City office. He joined the firm in 1979. Richard A. Burton, ‘80, has been commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force upon graduation from Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base, Tx. The 12-week course trained selected college graduates to apply communicative skills, professional knowledge, leadership and management in positions of responsibility. He is now assigned to Vandenburg Air Force Base, Ca. Glen G. Jenkins, ‘78, joined Peat Marwick, the international accounting firm, in 1979. He has been promoted within the management group of. that firm in the tax department of the Salt Lake City office. Mark S. Kettlewell, ‘78, was a naval intelligence officer (Lieutenant-USN) for almost eight years. He was an instructor for the navy and wrote computer database programs for various ships and commands in the Pacific Fleet. He left the navy in August to pursue a master’s degree in computer science. He has his own software development/consulting business. Dr. Kent O. Weber State professor of in 1983 from ta Barbara. Beech has management consulting Los Angeles office. has been with Peat Marpublic accounting firm, been promoted in the department of the firm’s Dorcas Griffin Johnson, ‘79, has been named Commercial Loan Officer in Commercial Security Bank’s Ogden Commercial Loan Center. Johnson began her career at CSB in 1980 as a management intern. In 1981 she was named Operations and Consumer Loan Officer in the University Office, and in 1982 she was named to that position at the Harrison Office. In March 1985, she was named Operations Manager at the Harrison Office, and has held that position until the present time. Theodore N. Legendre, ‘80, has assumed the position of Command Information Officer for Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division (light infantry). He is responsible for keeping soldiers, civilian employees and dependents informed of things which affect their careers, items of local interest, etc. He disseminates information via post newspaper, radio, TV, bulletin boards and commander’s calls. Reynolds, ‘79, graduated with a master’s degree in communication from Brigham Young University in 1981. She married Lt. General Marc C. Reynolds, Vice Commander of the Air Force Logistics Command, July 1984. They moved to Ohio. Following his graduation from WSC, he worked at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, then transferred to Defense Logistics; Agency where he trained at Columbus, Ohio, then at Dayton. He is now back with the Air Force as a program analyst. Misc. Robert T. Heiner was chosen to receive the City of Hope National Spirit of Life Award. A 34-year veteran of First Security, Heiner currently serves as president, chairman and chief executive officer of First Security Bank of Utah, a position he has held since 1982. A citation from the City of Hope describes Heiner as “a man of conscience and benevolent heartiness for well-being, fellow feeling and deep ee oe J | | | Dr. Dale A. Woodfield, ‘80, has opened an optometry office in North Ogden at the Mountain View Professional Center. Dr. Woodfield graduated from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1984. He was ranked first in his class in the area of contact lenses and was awarded the Bausch and Lomb Outstanding Achievement Award for his work with contact lenses. He was one of nine students in his class to graduate with Distinction Honors. He is a member of Beta Sigma Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies. Dr. Woodfield’s practice is open to general optometry, eye examinations, contact lense fitting| and glaucoma testing. He offers services in vision therapy, dyslexia, perceptual disabilities and visually related learning and reading problems. James McMurrin, 81, received his Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the University of Health Sciences-College of Osteopathic Medicine at Kansas City, Missouri on May 19, 1985. He will serve a one-year internship at Westview Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. J. Mark Whimpey, ‘81, graduated from the Oklahoma City University School of Law last summer, passed the Utah Bar Exam in February and will open a general law practice in Ogden. |
