Show Weber State College Comment, October1987 Page 10 Alumnews '38 '69 Marjorie McEntee,of Ogden, passed away of a heart attack Dec. 19, 1986. Paul H. Thompson is dean of Brigham Young University’s School of Management. He recently published a book titled “Novations: Strategies for Career Management.” He has co-authored another text on organizational behavior and has published numerous articles in academic and business journals. He received his doctorate from Harvard in 1969 and then stayed on there as an assistant professor in the graduate school of business until 1973. He and his family returned to Utah that year when he accepted a teaching position at Brigham Young University. He and his wife, Carolyn, have six children and live in Provo, Utah. and manager of the South Ogden area of First Security Bank of Utah. Urry is a member of the North Ogden City Council and lives in Ogden. lS Charles Zaugg was recently appointed manager of production engineering of Evans and Sutherland. After leaving Weber State he earned a masters of manufacturing administration degree from Washington Univer-" sity. He has managed a manufacturing engineering department with E.F. Johnson Company and has held various management and engineering positions at General Electric Company. He has completed General Electric’s Manufacturing Management program. He currently lives in Syracuse, Utah. '76 Dick Hart of Ogden has assumed the duties of senior accounting supervisor for Chevron Resources gold mining operation in Santiago, Chile as of Aug. 1. He is a graduate of Ogden High and has been with Chevron Corp., for 15 years, most recently serving as accounting supervisor at the Vernal Phosphate Plant. Dale T. Johnson, assistant vicep g of First Security Bank’s Roy, Utah office, was named assistant vice president and South Ogden area manager. He joined the bank in 1972 as a management trainee. He has also served as an assistant manager and cashier, and as a commercial loan officer. 2 '73 A Major Richard M. Atwater is assigned tothe Defense Intelligence Agency Counter Terrorism Office in Washington, D.C. He works in the National Military Intelligence Center (NMIC) in the Pentagon for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Secretary of Defense. His assignment as an intelligence officer supports the National Security Council and the White House on counter terrorism policy issues. He received his master’s degree in political science in 1975 from Brigham Young University. Following completion of military school he received a private pilot’s license, and was assigned three years to Strategic Air Command headquarters in Nebraska. He also spent three years at the U.S. Air Force headquarters in Europe and for three years was an assistant professor of aerospace studies, and an instructor in ancient scriptures at Brigham Young University. James D. Urry has been promoted to vice president Monte Hall graduated from the University of Utah College of Law in 1983 and moved to Las Vegas, Nev., to work for the law firm of Rudiak and Larsen, specializing in commercial and business litigation. He recently went to work for Beckley, Singleton, Delanoy, Jemison and List, the second largest law firm in Nevada. He is married tothe former Julie Hubertus, and they have two children. oF '78 Judy Decaria Hoskins received hermaster’s of education from Weber State in 1980 and she has just completed additional studies in gifted education. In 1984 she was named one of the Outstanding Women of American. She has taught in the Weber County School District, in Utah, for the past ten years. She and her three-year-old daughter live in Ogden. Reid M. Germer was named national leasing director for The Pro Image, Inc., headquartered in Bountiful, Utah. His new duties will include coordinating and overseeing the site selection and development program for the company’s 147 franchise owners and operators in the United States and Canada. Julie (Butler) Larsen Stringham Real Estate estate examination and Richard, at Homestead in North Ogden. recently grad from Sp School. Kunkle has participated in the Strategic Air Command’s annual readiness training exercises “Global Shield 87.” Selected Air Force Reserve and Guard units joined with Strategic Air Command units worldwide in the extensive exercise designed to enhance readiness and support U.S. national policy. The captain is a missile combat crew commander with the 341st Strategic Missile Wing at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont. Dorothy A. Milligan isthe department chairman of special education at Kitty Hawk Junior High in the Judson ISD. She recently received a government grant to study for a master’s of special education degree at Out Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. Med Mark Corp. is a national company with a major thrust in the marketing and assessment of medical services. Blocher graduated from Brigham Young University with a master’s degree in communications, specializing in interpersonal communications. He and his wife, Lauren, have two sons and currently live in Oak Ridge, Tenn. Mark G. Ballif recently completed a residency in opthalmology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He is opening his own practice in opthalmology in Ogden. He and his wife, Carolee ‘79, havethree children. '80 \ Jay Cashmore, an agent of State Farm Insurance in Clearfield, Utah, has been named an agency manager in the Salt Lake Valley Area effective July 1. He joined State Farm as a trainee agent in 1979 and since that time has qualified for the State Farm sales category of “multi-millionaire” six times and as “millionaire” eight times. He has been that company’s Legion of Honor designee four times and has been named a Merit Agent in auto and life six times, and fire seven times. Additionally, he qualified three times to attend a national convention. Maj. John F. Torsak recently received the U.S. Navy’s Meritorious Service Medal. He received the decoration for his performance as head of the AV-8 Barrier Weapon Management Section of the Navy Aviation Supply Office in Philadelphia. While in that position he contributed to better pricing, accurate management of the weapons data files, and the correct forecasting of requirements to the Defense Logistics Agency. He currently lives in Philadelphia, Pa. ead '719 Navy Lt. Cmdr. Edgar A. Jordan recently participated in the commissioning of the guided missile frigate Rodney M. Davis, home ported in Long Beach, Calif. The mission of the USS Rodney M. Davis is to escort amphibious task groups, and replenish underway groups or convoys. Jordan is a 1982 graduate of Naval Post Graduate School with a master of science degree. He joined the navy in 1975. Sharon Warner was recently appointed manager of First Security’s Bank of Utah branch at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden. She is also a member of the Ladies Chamber of Commerce Women in Management. '70 Scott D. Chamberlain wasnamed chief of mortgage credit for Puller Mortgage Association, Inc., of Indianapolis, Ind. Heandhis wife, Stephanie Ericson Chamberlain, ‘82 ,and their three children currently live in Carmel, Ind. Evan Love has been promoted by Syntex Laboratories of Palo Alto, Calif., to district manager. He will supervise medical representatives in Orange County, Calif. Love, who joined Syntex in 1982, began as a Syntex professional medical representative and served as parttime dermatology representative and part-time hospital representative. Syntex spends more than $100 million each year for research in the life sciences. Love now resides in Mission Viejo, Calif, with his wife, Carol, and their five children. Bruce G. Holbrook was named assistant vice president and manager of the Ogden office of the First Interstate Bank. He has been with the bank since 1974 and was most recently manager of the Granger office. He is affiliated with the American Institute of Banking. Prior to his work at the bank he managed a consumer finance company in Ogden. Monte J. Fowles has been appointed product manager for USG Interiors, Inc., a subsidiary of USG Corporation headquartered in Chicago, Ill. His responsibilities include advertising, promotional programs and product development of mineral fiber products. He attended BYU and Califomia State College before graduating from Weber State. Currently he is attending Illinois Benedictine College’s MBA program. He is amember of the American Marketing Association, S.A.E., and other professional organizations. He is married to the former Ronda Fowles of Long Beach, Calif. They have two children and live in Naperville, Ill. ‘81 Kim Rogers and Donna R. Bowen Rogers arebothcontinuing academic work after eaming graduate degrees from — Utah State University. Kim received a Ph.D. in biochemistry and will be working on a postdoctoral fellowship in the department of biology. Donna was awarded a master of science degree in family and human development, after completing a thesis based on a study examining the effects of premenstrual syndrome on marriage. She has been accepted into the doctoral program in developmental psychology at USU. The couple lives in Ogden and are the parents of two children. Gloria O. Wright works for the Davis County School District as a “Youth-In-Custody” worker and gives workshops on many different topics. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and the Alpha Delta Mu Honor Society. She is married to James O. Wright, an electrical engineer who taught for 12 years at Weber State. She and her husband and their six children live in Kaysville, Utah. Johathan A. Morrell is a technical writer for Computer Sciences Corporation in San Diego, Calif, where he works in Systems Divisions as a training specialist for the Standard Automated Financial System for the Navy Financial Centers. That system is the largest accounting software product that has been developed for the U.S. government. As a training specialist Morrell is involved in the development of instructor and student lesson guides and support data bases. He travels to Naval bases across the country for training purposes. After graduating from Weber State, he worked as a teacher, editor, technical writer and translator in Tokyo, where he also did free lance public relations work for Japan Steel, Bridgestone, Showa Shipping, Nissan and Tokyo Advertising Agency. He received his Master of Arts degree from Brigham Young University in 1986 and did graduate project work in the international communications field. Currently he is working on his certification to teach in the Califomia Community Colleges. Blaine Fowers recently graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Ph.D. in counseling psychology. He started teaching in the family studies department at the University of New Mexico in August. He recently had an article published in the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy. He is married to the former Susan Green and they live in Albuquerque, N.M. oe. ae |
