Show State Comment, Winter 1990 Alumni Honored 1940 A five-year-old unit of St. Benedict’s Hospital was named the Walter C. & Beryl M. Swanson Single Day Surgery Center October 5 in honor of the couple’s generous gift to the hospital. Dr. Swanson, an Ogden podiatrist, and his wife Beryl donated stock that represents one of the largest contributions ever received by the hospital. He is a 1917 WSC graduate. In ceremonies held at the surgery center at noon, hospital administrators expressed appreciation to the Swansons for their foresight and concern for the future. NER Alumnews 1939 Audrey E. Bush, recently received the Distinguished Service Award from Dixie College. She received a bachelor of science and master of music degrees from the University of Utah. She studied contrabass. with Anselme Fortier in New York City. She was adjunct professor of music at the University of Utah from 1948 to 1984 with teaching affiliations at Brigham Young University. Ms. Bush formerly served as Principal Bass for the Seatle Symphony, performed with the South Carolina Symphony, Santa Fe Opera Company, and was Principal Bass of the Utah Symphony for 35 years. She has published two method books for contrabass, is bass consultant for other publications and is listed in Marquis Who’s Who of American Women. Formerly Principal Bass of the Southwest Symphony, she is currently musical director of the Color Country Youth Orchestra, coordinator of string instruction for the Washington County School District in Utah, and is the founder and director of the Dixie Festival of the Performing Arts. She has made numerous contributions to the quality of string music in Utah, and spent hundreds of hours helping the youth of the county gain an appreciation for, and increase their talent in music. She is the mother of one daughter and two sons. She has three grandchildren. TREE RL Weber 10 Raymond Glen Brewer is currently serving as a 1949 Herbert A. Jahnle is the director of the Budd Company Technical Center in Auburn Hills, Mich. He and his wife, Anne, class of ‘80, and their three children, reside in Poquoson, Va. 1957 Richard M. Webber, first vice president with Coldwell Banker, recently purchased Coldwell Banker Residential Co. in Park City, Salt Lake City, Davis County and Ogden. Brown, a resident of Loa, Utah, recently reported for duty with the Coast Guard Marine Safety Office in Valdez, Alaska. He joined the Coast Guard Reserves in August 1969. 1972 Edward G. He was formerly vice president and manager of the Ogden commercial loan department. He earned his Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Utah, and is currently attending Pacific Coast Banking School. Mr. Kleyn is also the chairman of Ogden’s Mission 2000 group. 1977 Navy Lt. Cmdr. Larry M. Gillis, formely of Tooele, Utah, has been promoted to his present rank while serving at Naval Station North Island, in San Diego, Calif. He joined the Navy in March 1979. Arthus F. Brownell was recently promoted to assistant vice president and manager of the Bountiful office for First Security Bank of Utah. He had formerly Kerry C. Wangsgard has been promoted to trust officer, with the First Security Bank of Utah Trust Group. He was formerly an assistant trust officer. 1984 Lance D. Hamner, a former Outstanding Criminal Justice Student and Outstanding Graduate of the WSC College of Social Sciences, recently announced his candidacy for the office of Johnson County Prosecuter in Indiana. A former police officer, Hamner received his Doctor of Jurisprudence (magna cum laude) from Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, Ind. eenr He and his wife a a Senate as the assistant to the Chaplain. Sandra live in Arlington, Va. Defence Logistics Agency in Santa Ana, Calif. His position is as chief of the office in installation services. He previously served eight years as Ogden City councilman, He received his masters degree in 1965 at the Universtiy of Utah. He is currently a media coordinator at Ogden High School. His wife, the former Katherine M. Dixon is employed at WSC. They have four children attending WSC. 1987 Gordon R. Meyer recently graduated from Northern Illinois University with a master of arts degree in sociology. Additionally, he received two awards from the NIU sociology department; the “Frances Rowe Katz Award for Exellence in Graduate Scholarship and Research” and “Best Graduate Student Paper, 198889.” In September Mr. Meyer married Gale L. Greinke, class of ‘87. Mr. Meyer is employed by Electronic Data Systems in Fort Sheridan, Ill. Gale L. Greinke was married to Gordon R. Meyer, class of ‘87, in September. She is employed by Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, Ill., where she is a special procedures radiographer. |
