Show Weber. State Comment, Spring 1990 1961 1972 Diane Rockwell Plein has taken a position with the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety in Human resources. She was formerly a real estate agent. She graduated from Weber State with an associate degree and earned her bachelors degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She currently resides in Sun City, Ariz. Kristin Jarrett Rose r has taught special _ education for 16 years. | She has been a professional musician/singer part of that time in the Philadelphia area. She has eight children who | still live at home. She received her masters degree from Trenton State College in 1983. She and her husband, Jeffrey Wright, currently live in Woodbury, N.J. 1974 Clark Baron has been selected by the Utah State School Boards Association as the state’s urban “Outstanding High School Teacher” for 1990. Mr. Baron ¢ teaches electronics, technology and math in the vocational department at Provo High in Utah. Last year Mr. Baron was recognized as the 1989 “Teacher of the Year” for the Provo School District and is currently a teacher leader where he works with Provo’s new teachers. He is also the school specialist in learning styles and principles of effective teaching. He has assumed leadership roles on state office curriculum projects in science, vocational electronics, principles of technology, and computer literacy. He is serving as Provo High’s representative of the district career-ladder committee and has served on numerous other state and district committees. He is a member of the BYU chapter of Phi Delta Kappa and has earned his M. Ed degree from Brigham Young University. He is acting (for the second time) as the president of the state organization of Electronics Teachers. He has served as the high school representative on the National Audio Board of the Electronics Industries Association. He has been a workshop presenter at various state conferences for superintendents, school principals, vocational directors, vocational instructors, computer instructors, and state math teachers. He also works at WordPerfect Corporation. Mr. Baron is well known for EN EEE EET ES Navy Seaman Scott J. Tremea, Michael B. Harris, a science teacher at formerly of West Point, Utah, has completed recruit training at Recruit Training Command, in Orlando, Fla. During Tremea’s eight-week training cycle, he studied general milicary subjects designed to prepare him for further academic and on-the-job training in one of the Navy’s 85 basic fields. Tremea’s studies included seamanship, close order drill, Naval history and first aid. He joined the Navy Reserves in August 1989. Layton High School in Layton, Utah, has received the 1989 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics 1984 married to Joyce P. Baron, class of 1972 from Brigham City, and they are the parents of six children. They currently reside in Provo, Utah. Teaching. He received a $7,500 National 1973 a 1983 Science Foundation grant to be spent under the direction of his school. The White House gave the awards to 112 junior, middle and senior high school science and mathematics teachers from across the nation. Erich Bloch, director of the National Science Foundation, which administers the awards program, said, “In classrooms nationwide these teachers use their unusual talents to help students see the beauty and necessity of science and mathematics and to master their intricacies. They are performing an outstanding service in preparing our future scientists and engineers.” Mr. Harris was honored during a presentation in Washington, D.C. at a Department of State banquet and at a National Academy of Sciences reception. He participated in an honors workshop at the nation’s capital and met with various American education leaders. 1977 Don Eric Belnap, CLU, has earned the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation from the American College, Bryan Mawr, Pa. The ChFC program provides financial professionals with the knowledge and credentials needed to serve in the financial planning industry. Mr. Belnap is associated with Beneficial Life of Salt Lake City, Utah and U.S. Life Equity Sales Corporation of New York. He and his wife, Mary, class of 79, and their four children live in Ogden. 1985 Lani Sue Hull Richards married Steve Richards, who attended Weber State, in August 1988. The couple has a three month old daughter. Mrs. Richards works for the Department of State. She and her husband live in Arlington, Va. 1987 H. Joe Featherstone was recently promoted to vice president of Therapeutic and Support Services of St. Benedicts Hospital in Ogden. He served formerly as the assistant vice president for Support Services at St. Benedicts. He is a member of Ogden Rotary, the Ogden Chamber of Commerce, and is a past board chairman of the Bonneville Chapter of the American Red Cross. He lives in Ogden, Utah. 1979 Michael R. Cassidy is a senior systems programmer with the University of Utah’s Supercomputer Institute as of last April. His articles on MVS programming are being published in the Supercomputer Institutes newsletter. He is participating in quantum mechanics research as well as other large scale computer projects. He and his wife, Vonna B. Cassidy, class of 1983, currently reside in Ogden, Utah. 1987 Mary Van Sickle Robnett currently is working towards a juris doctorate at the University of Puget Sound School of Law in Washington on a “Scholarship at entry”. She was named to the Dean’s List for the 1988-89 academic year. She expects to complete her studies this year. She lives in Maple Valley, Wash. Patrick C. Uhegwu currently works as a pretrial investigative interviewer with the Superior Court in Maricopa County, Ariz. He is continuing graduate studies at Arizona State University in criminal justice administration. His interests include soccer, athletics, lawn tennis, music, reading and academic pursuits. He lives in Tempe, Ariz. 1988 Randy Sackerson is currently the vice Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Wayne E. Boyer, a resident of Paradise, Utah, has completed the Navy Intelligence Specialist Course. During the 10-week course at the Naval and Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center, at Virginia Beach, Va. Boyer was taught the basics of photometrics aerial photo interpretations, and multi-sensor reconnaissance systems, as well as administrative office procedures and typing. His training was designed to prepare him for future duty aboard aircraft carriers or amphibious command ships with aviation units, or at a variety of shore installations that require military intelligence analysts. He joined the Navy Reserves in Sept. 1987. president of Logistics at American Banner in Tulsa, Okla. He was recently elected to the company’s board of directors. He lives in Bartlesville, Okla. tia Alumnews Jean Holbrook Mathews was recently elected to the National Board of Directors of the American Legislative Exchange Council, a national, bi-partisan group of state legislators with headquarters in Washington, D.C. She presently serves as director of the Task Force on Law and Justice which is sponsored by the organization. Mrs. Mathews is currently serving her fifth term in the Missouri House of Representatives. She and her husband, J. Phillip, live in Florissant, Mo. the dedicated and fun way that he conducts his classes. His students excel in electronics and technology after high school. His knowledge and skills are sought after by both educators and industrial leaders. He is a mentor for his colleagues both in the district and in state education circles. He is |
