Rice Company in 1867. In 1904, Christensen records his travel east to preside over the Scandinavian Mission, and, while en-route, he describes his stops at the Louisiana Fair Exposition and Nauvoo, Illiniois. Thereafter, the bulk of the diary contains information pertaining to the day-to-day affairs of presiding over the Scandinavian Mission. |

James Miller Christensen was born in Denmark, converted to Mormonism, and migrated to Utah with the Leonard G. Rice Company in 1867. He settled in Moroni, Utah, where he farmed, ranched, practiced polygamy, and participated in a failed attempt at the United Order. By 1893, Christensen and both of his wives had moved to Salt Lake City. He served three missions to Scandinavia and, during the final, presided over the Scandinavian Mission. |

Show 158, 1907, Visit poor, spread Fasts Jan 9th In the A.M. in Office in the p.m. acompanied Several of Bro. & Sisters on the Annual visit at ‘Aluimdeligheden’ an institution for Aged & poor, where several of our Saints are, also visited a Sick Br. M. Nielsen at ev. att. Meeting. 10th Buissey all day with Acts. & Letters to Several Conf. at ev. visited Christensen Family 11th Office work. & Study. at ev. visited Thorvald Petersen on Enghavsvie, during day wrote Pres. Rasmusen in Kristiania in regard to babtizing some Girlls, without Fathers consent, advised him to get that first 12th Current work, bussy. wrote Lorenzo. This day abt 10 of the Elders & a Family Fasted to the following p.m. to implore The Lord for the sight of a girl and on The 13th We anointed her & felt impresed that she would receive her sight in part. att. S. School & 2 & 6 p.m. meetings, after which Br. F. Christensen & I visited a Br. Mork Family 14th Br. Christiansen from Aarhus our Printer & Wife called. I wrote Pres. Grant. recd. & diclated several Letters, at ev. on invitation of Geolog J. Jensenmet the Elders at his Lodging at Br. Hansens, & spent a pleasant ev. 15 Work at Office all day, at ev. mutual 159, Wrote Bishop of Elsinora Jan 16th Att. To Office work. & at ev. meeting & Spoke 17th Work at Office, got Letter from home, wrote to Pres. C. W. Penrose abt F. Christensens release & permission for him to marry here or in England Spent evning at Frind H.O. Nielsens at ‘Casernen’ 18th Reports came in from Kristiania & Aarhus, all wanting same had to be returned. at ev. att. Preisthood meeting 19th Att. to buisness. wrote to Sister Camilla examined old records. at ev. Visited a Hansen Family on Christianshavn. friendly. had one daughter in the Church, Astnd. a fine girl. 20th Sunday att S. School & 2 & 6 pm meetings, fair attendance, 21nd Office work. & Study. at ev. All The Elders were invited to Br. H. Larsen to celebrate his 54th birthday. 54 years young. he has a son in Utah who Labors for thier Emigration. I offered to assist with $20.00 we spent a very pleasant evning. 22nd Released Elders A. Frederksen, Hyrum L. Johnson, Julius Nielsen, H.H. Hansen S. Larsen & Hans Knudsen, wrote Bishop Jensen of Elsinora. att. Mutual at evning. 23 Office work, visited Sick Br.
