The environmental features of the Ogden locality afford such recreational opportunities as hiking, trout fishing, hunting, boating, swimming, golfing, motoring, skiing and skating; all of which are utilized in the activity program of the college. 4. Ogden affords a diverse social laboratory in which students and faculty can become deeply involved. Students and faculty, alike, seek new and unique ways in which they can apply the great knowledge of our times to the problems which face us in contemporary society. Continuing Education Continuing Education is uniquely structured so that a wide variety of interests and needs of individuals and agencies can be effectively met. These interests and needs are satisfied within the following structure. Evening and Off-Campus Programs—The Evening and Off- Campus program oflers both degree and non-degree courses, on and off campus, for adults who desire to work toward a baccalaureate degree, certificates of proficiency or completion; or foi those who desire self-improvement in vocational or avocational pursuits. The location of off-campus sites are determined by the needs and requests of groups of students or of business, industry, or governmental agencies. Community Development—Community development is an area in which the College endeavors to bridge the gap between acquisition and application of knowledge. The coordinator ol community development programs assists in bringing the expertise of the departments of the College to bear on community problems. Community development involves a wide range of activities, which includes work with citizens groups and with municipal employee; and the problems of municipal government. Summer School—Summer School provides an opportunity foi the student to accelerate his educational program by offering a full quarter of work. In addition, credit and non-credit conferences, institutes, and workshops are conducted throughout the summer foi youth and adults. (See Continuing Education section for a further breakdown oi programs and activities.) Intercollegiate Athletics Dale L. Gardner, Director Weber State College is a member of the National Collegiate \thletic Association and of the Big Sky Athletic Conference, and is such offers a full program in Intercollegiate Athletics. The members of the Big Sky Athletic Conference are Weber State College, Gonzaga University, University of Idaho, Idaho State University, University of Montana, Montana State University, Boise State College, and Northern Arizona University. The program is under the direction of Dale L. Gardner as \thletic Director with Gary Crompton as Assistant Athletic Director. Athletic publicity is under the direction of Don Spainhower. Musical and spoken records and tape recordings, an increasing number of educational films (over 900 at present), dial access units (audio and audio/visual) are all available in the Learning Resources Center. 30 31 |
