Honors for Commencement are determined during the Spring Quarter and do not reflect final grades for that quarter Payment of Fees—The student must have cleared all colleg financial obligations. REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELOR OF ARTS AND BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREES Minimum Requirements—A candidate for graduation with Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science Degree must have completed a minimum of 183 credits. Upper Division Requirement—A minimum of 60 credits o upper division work. Major Requirements—A major in any one department wil consist of not fewer than 40 and not more than 60 credits in the major field. Minor Requirements—A minor consists of not fewer than 2( credits. Courses designed primarily for the major students whicl are also used to satisfy the area requirements as outlined unde area requirements can be used as part of the minimum number o hours needed for the minor requirements. Residence Requirement—A candidate for graduation must have a minimum of 45 credits in residence at Weber State College anc be registered at the College during at least one quarter followin the last commencement prior to his graduation. School or Department Requirements—Further informatior concerning specific courses will be provided under the discussior of school or department requirements and instructions. Candidate for graduation in the School of Education must meet the minimun requirements as outlined by the Utah State Board of Education fo certification of elementary and secondary teachers. Specific Course Requirements—All candidates must include ir the 183 credits required for graduation the following courses: Credits English 1, 2, 3 (Freshman Composition) 9 Health Education 1 2 Physical Education (Medical exemption approved by the college physician required to waive this requirement) 3 62 Academic Information (For specified activities see Physical Education Department) The state requirement in American History, Government and Economics 3-5 he state requirement in American History, Government, and Iconomics may be satisfied by: 1. Selecting one of the following courses: Economics 10, Economic History of the United States; Economics 130, Business and Government; History 5, American Civilization; History 10, United States History and History 11, United States History; History 120, Constitutional History of the United States; Political Science 1, American National Government; Philosophy 120, Philosophy of Democracy. The following courses may also be applied to general education requirements: Economics 10, Economic History of the United States; History 5, American Civilization; History 10, United States History and History 11, United States History; Political Science 1, American National Government; Philosophy 120, Philosophy of Democracy, or 2. Presenting advanced placement credit in American History or suitable transfer courses from other institutions, or 3. Passing a special examination administered before the end of the second week of each quarter under the direction of the Dean of the School of Arts, Letters and Science. If this option is completed then the Social Science requirement is reduced to 9 credit hours. Bachelor of Arts Requirements—In addition to the foregoing equirements concerning total hours, upper division work, majors, linors, residency, and specific courses, a candidate for a Bachelor f Arts shall complete, as general education area requirements, at 3ast 40 credit hours in the four areas of Humanities, Life Sciences, 'hysical Sciences, and Social Sciences. These hours shall be pro- •ortioned as follows: at least 12 credit hours in the Social Sciences; t least 9 credit hours in the combined areas of the Life Sciences nd the Physical Sciences, with at least one course in each area. In ddition, women students shall complete one approved course in he Department of Family Life. A candidate for a Bachelor of Arts degree must complete 24 redits, or the equivalent, in one approved foreign language. l maximum of 15 college credits from high school may count award filling the foreign language requirement, provided the :udent can pass an examination to demonstrate his knowledge of |
