Show Services of the College Services of the College "Service to the student; service to the employer; service to the institution." Specific functions of the Placement Center are: (1) to offer career counseling to all students, especially those who haven't determined an academic major; (2) to assist prospective graduates in securing career employment; (3) to assist students in securing part- time employment while attending college; (4) to supplement the information and suggestions provided by academic departments to students desiring to do graduate work. The Placement Center cooperates and works closely with various representatives of local business and industry in addition to the Utah Employment Security Office. The Center is also the coordinating agency between students and the many school districts, business, industrial and governmental organizations from many areas of the United States. The Placement Center maintains current and accurate information concerning employment and occupational trends both nationally and locally. UPWARD BOUND Upward Bound—The Upward Bound Program at Weber State College is designed to prepare high school students from poverty surroundings for post high school education. Ninety students from the eleventh and twelfth grades from Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, Duchesne and Uintah Counties are selected and involved in the twelve-month program. To be eligible for the Upward Bound Program, a student must be attending a high school within a 50-mile radius of Weber State College and come from a low income family. Applications and further information may be obtained from the Upward Bound Office, Annex 5. This program is funded by the Federal Government except for limited matching funds provided by the College. VETERANS' SERVICE Veterans Coordinator—It is necessary that all veterans who attend Weber State College under one of the Public Laws clear through the Office of the Veteran Coordinator. Veterans may receive guidance and counseling related to educational opportunities afforded by the public laws and the programs offered by Weber State College. Those with problems in registering or any other special problems should contact the Veterans' Office. OH THE WEBER STATE COLLEGE UNION Weber State College Union—The Weber State College Union is the social-cultural, and recreational center of the campus for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. All student government facilities, offices and council rooms are located in the Union. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests are encouraged to use the facilities and services. Reservations for meeting spaces and other facilities should be made well in advance. A list of services are available at the Weber State College Union. All groups using the facilities are required to observe Union policy. Those groups who do not observe Union policy will be excluded from using the facilities. Staff members working directly with the students are: the Director of the Union and Student Activities, Asst. Union Director, the Coordinator of Student Activities, and Coordinator of Student Government. Students serving on Union Activities Committees are provided opportunities for growth in human development. Union committees available are: Arts and Crafts, Dance, Exhibits, Films, Games, Hospitality, Lectures, Married Students, Music and Talent, and Special Events. Associated Students—The Associated Students operate under the ASWSC Constitution, which has established three branches: the Executive Branch, the Legislative Branch and the Judicial Branch. The ASWSC provides the opportunity for students to serve either as an elected student officer or on several committees. Elected student officers include the studentbody president, vice presidents, and senators. ASWSC committees include Leadership, Elections, Spirit, Community Service, Orientation and SEED (student tutoring service). Community Service Bureau—The Weber State College Community Service Bureau has been organized to maintain public relations for Weber State College; to provide an outlet for campus talent and develop student participants and to serve the community. Under supervision of the Community Service Bureau, talent program requests from community organizations will be filled. Students desiring to participate with the Bureau may contact the Student- body Office. All students are invited to apply to studentbody officers, to the committee chairmen, or the Union Staff for assignments to these committees. OTHER SERVICES Academic Advisement—At the time of admission to Weber State College, every student is assigned to a faculty adviser in 85 |
