Show Arts, Letters and Science — Guided Studies his counselor and includes Guided Studies 1 during his first quarter in attendance. The student is expected to arrange a conference with his counselor well before registration. i A student assigned to the Guided Studies Program may apply for transfer to a regular academic or technical program of his choice after completing, with an average grade of "C" or better, Guided Studies 1, English 1, one Life Science or Physical Science course accepted toward the General Education requirement, and one Humanities or Social Science course accepted toward the General Education requirement. A student may have any or all of these requirements waived at any time by transferring into a Trade program. Should he choose intially to go into a Trade program these requirements are not applicable. A student assigned to the Guided Studies Program who is interested in Trade programs should con suit the Director of the Trade-Technical Institute. Courses of Instruction Instructor, Thomas Musgrave Guided Studies 1—Effective Study Skills and Habits. A course designed to initiate the marginal student (but not limited to such) into the college environment and to provide motivation, encourage ment and study skills essential to academic success. Two lectures and three laboratory hours per week. A W S (3) Musgrave Health Occupations Weber State, in cooperation with affiliated hospitals and other departments of the College, offers an expanding program for the education and training of health care workers. The programs em phasize an integration of basic sciences, liberal arts and clinical experiences which enable the graduates to make a maximum contri bution to patient care as a member of the health core team. The area of Health Occupations is currently served by two departments: Nursing and Health Facility Occupations, which offer programs leading to the degrees of Associate of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology, and an Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy. A certificate of Proficiency is also offeree! in Licensed Practical Nursing. Administration of the Licensed Practical Nursing Program is currently in the School of Technology and Trade-Technical Education. By overall planning and integration of all programs, qualit) programs will be maintained and developed by the department; and the highest quality of care will be fostered. Under the directior Arts, Letters and Science — Aerospace of the Assistant Dean of Health Occupations a series of quarterly convocations emphasizing new concepts in health care delivery will be presented. Attendance at these meetings will be mandatory for all students enrolled in any of the educational programs of Health Occupations. For details on the Health Occupations programs consult the appropriate departmental sections of the catalog. AEROSPACE STUDIES Departmental Office, 2010 Annex Building (University of Utah) Professor and Chairman of the Department: William I. MacLachlan, Lt. Col., USAF; Assistant Professor, Larry B. Hughes, Major, USAF. The Department of Aerospace Studies offers the two year Air Force ROTC Program leading to a Commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Male students who have two years academic work remaining before receiving their degree— either baccalaureate or graduate—meet the basic eligibility requirements. Entry into the program is selective and is normally initiated during fall quarter, sophomore year. A schedule of accomplishment is: September through November—Apply and take the USAF Officer Qualifying tests. October through January—Accomplish Air Force Physical Examination. February—Meet Air Force ROTC Selection Board. June through September—Attend Six Week Summer Field Training Unit. September—Enroll in Air Force ROTC. Students may qualify for flying officer (pilot or navigator), scientific or technical officer, or non-technical officer. Those accepted into the program must agree to: (a) Complete work for their degree. (b) Accept, if offered, a Commission in the United States Air Force. (c) Participate in three classroom and one leadership laboratory hours of Aerospace Studies instruction each week for six academic quarters. Fully enrolled cadets are deferred from selective service. All cadets receive $50.00 per month for the two academic years. This 97 |
