Show Arts, Letters and Science — Health Occupations Health Occupations Core Courses of Instruction 1. Medical Terminology—Medical terms of Greek and Latin origin. Recommended for Health Facilities Occupations, pre-medical, dental, veterinary medicine and pre-physical therapy students. A (3) ' Terry, Staff 3. Introduction to Medical Science—An introduction to an understanding of the causes of disease and their effect on individual organs and the body as a whole. W (3) Terry, Staff 5. Health Occupations Interpersonal Relationships—Roles of members of health professions, administration and professional relationships, ethics and the psychology of interpersonal relation- Ships as applied to the health occupations. S (3) Terry, Staff 10. Introduction to Pharmacology—An introductory course in pharmacology to provide the student with the knowledge and skills required in the safe administration of medicines. Designed to increase the understanding of the use of drugs as therapeutic agents. A (4) Stringham, Staff Medical Technology Medical Technology Major—Students following careers in Medical Technology must complete three years of study (minimum of 138 credit hours) on the campus plus a twelve-month senior year internship in an approved hospital School of Medical Technology. Included in the above hours are college specific and area requirements for the bachelor's degree, the health occupations core— H.O.I, 3, 5 and those of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), namely: Microbiology 50, 60, 158, 159-elective, 161; Chemistry 24, 25, 26, 105, 107, 131; Mathematics 14; Zoology 123, 124, 130; Physics 5. A minimum grade point of 2.5 is recommended for entrance into the senior year internship. Medical Technology 151 through 159 are taken during the senior year in the affiliated hospital School of Medical Technology. To become registered as a Medical Technologist (ASCP), individuals must apply to the Registry of Medical Technologists and be examined to verify their professional competence. Applied Clinical Laboratory—Hospital laboratory experience in an approved School of Medical Technology with training and practical internship directed by a clinical pathologist. Applied Clinical Laboratory (continued)- RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY -A (5) Terry, Staff -A (5) Terry, Staff -W (5) Terry, Staff -W (5) Terry, Staff -W(5) Terry, Staff -S(5) Terry, Staff -S(5) Terry, Staff -S(5) Terry, Staff The Department conducts an approved Radiologic Technology program in affiliation with the McKay-Dee Hospital Center and the St. Benedict's Hospital. The curriculum is designed to prepare competent and adaptable registered radiologic technologists. Candidates for the program are enrolled as pre-radiologic technology majors during the autumn and winter quarters of the Freshman year. The actual radiologic technology majors are then selected at the beginning of the spring quarter after each candidate has (1) presented a superior high school achivement record, (2) passed entrance and aptitude tests, (3) completed personal interviews with the Chairman of the Department and the appropriate hospital personnel and (4) completed the pre-radiologic technology curriculum. For details of the application procedure, prospective candidates should contact the Chairman of the Department. The curriculum is twenty-seven months in length. Students are enrolled in the program each quarter (summers included) after official acceptance into the class (spring quarter of freshman year). At times other than during campus instruction, students are required to be in the hospital radiology laboratories gaining clinical experience; for in addition to the intensive didactic instruction, the curriculum also includes a minimum of 2400 hours of clinical training.
