Applied Shorthand Transcription—Practical application of shorthand transcription techniques. Review of punctuation, grammar, capitalization, etc., relating to mailable transcripts. Prerequisites: shorthand speed of 80 to 100 or above, typewriting speed of 40 or above. W S (3) Jarrett 111. Intermediate Shorthand, Dictation, and Transcription— Speed dictation with stress on fluency and accuracy of writing. An entrance speed of at least 90 words per minute is required. Office Procedures—Practical integration in all secretrial skills, training in office techniques, organizations, routine, business grooming, human relations and business etiquette. Practice in filing, handling mail, use of telephone, operation of voice-writing machines. Prerequisites: Office Administration 3, 21, 25, 33, with shorthand preferred but not required. S (5) O. Office Organization and Management—Principles of office organization and management; duties of the manager; selection and training of office personnel; layout and work-flow systems and procedures analysis; forms design and control; selection and care of supplies and equipment. Methods of Teaching Shorthand and Office Practice- Analysis of textbooks and research into methods of teaching shorthand theory, speed and transcription with special emphasis on standards of achievement, testing, grading, and effective planning and organization of course content, standards of work, testing and grading of office practice courses. Methods of Teaching Business Subjects (Non-skill) — Methods of teaching high school bookkeeping, general business, economics, business law, business math, business English, etc. Analysis of textbooks, and the various methods of presentation of non- skill subjects with special emphasis on student achievement, testing, and grading. Cooperative Office Experience—Internship in office skills, actual on-the-job training as a "student secretary" of a minimum of 4 hours per week (May be waived by completing resume of acceptable prior secretarial work experience.) Secretarial Seminar—Research and discussion of office- related problems such as supervision, procedures, etc. To be taken concurrently with Office Administration 193.
