Academic Information Academic Information II. STUDENT ACTIVITIES CONCERNED 1. Student government and other student leadership and service activities. 2. Social and service clubs, fraternities and sororities. 3. Music and dramatic events. 4. Debate. 5. Publication staffs. 6. Chatonelles, cheerleaders, and song leaders. 7. King, Queen, and similar contests. Before students may represent Weber State College in intercollegiate athletics they must comply with the eligibility regulations adopted by the Board of Trustees of the College and constitution and operating code of the Big Sky Conference. Any student who participates in any of the activities concerned without meeting all of the criteria for eligibility, including registration for 12 or more quarter hours in the quarter during which the student participates, places himself and others involved in jeopardy. Should his eligibility be challenged and found wanting, his group may be required to forfeit any win it may have gained during such participation. III. ELIGIBILITY COMMITTEE The chairman and members of the Eligibility Committee are administratively appointed to do the following: 1. To interpret all rules governing eligibility. 2. To determine the eligibility of all participants in organized studentbody activities. IV. STANDARDS AND TOTAL WORK LOAD Students should avoid overloading themselves to a point that their performance suffers. In general they should expect to study two hours for each hour of lecture. Care should be taken to keep the total work load, including outside work, at a reasonable level. No student should plan to work more than 20 hours a week on outside work if he is taking 15 hours of credit. Social Standards—A student attending Weber State College is expected to maintain a high standard of moral conduct. He enters college through choice. He is not required to attend by law. Forfeiture of the privilege to attend may result from unsatisfactory conduct. Numerous rules and regulations are purposely omitted. Students are expected to demonstrate maturity in their judgments. Most students do this. It is only the few who ostracize themselves because of their immaturity. Appropriate Dress—Appropriate dress is expected for the campus and in all buildings. Use of Liquor—Weber State College does not permit the use of alcoholic beverages either on the campus or at college- sponsored functions off the campus. Any violation of this rule is subject to disciplinary action. Drug Abuse—Use, possession, or distribution of narcotics or illegal drugs on college owned property, except as expressedly permitted by law, will not be tolerated. Any violation of this rule will result in disciplinary action. Smoking—Smoking is prohibited in all buildings on the campus. Provision for Appeal—Any student who has been suspended or declared ineligible for academic or social reasons will have the right to appeal his case in writing to the Standards Committee. His appeal should include a statement of any extenuating circumstances. Graduation Weber State College grants the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and titles of Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, a Certificate of Completion, and a Certificate of Proficiency. For a student to be admitted to candidacy for any degree or title, his scholastic record must show that he has satisfied the entrance requirements and that he can fulfill the requirements for graduation upon the completion of the courses for which he has registered. No credit obtained prior to the time his college standing was established may be used toward graduation. The Graduation Committee may make exceptions in individual cases. Grade Requirements—A student's scholastic record must show that he has an average of not less than "C", an average grade point of at least 2.0 in all his registered work. Credit Restrictions—Not more than 30 quarter hours of "D" grade credit may be applied toward graduation. However, the School or Department may reject any or all "D" grade work toward the major or minor requirements. Not more than twenty-four of the total hours required for the baccalaureate degree may be correspondence credit. All "incompletes" must be removed at least four weeks prior to graduation. Residence Requirement—A candidate for any degree or title must be registered at the College during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to his graduation. 54
