Show Arts, Letters and Science Arts, Letters and Science foreign residence will not be permitted to take classes numbered below 100 without the consent of the Department. Scholarship—A "D" grade in any upper division course will not be accepted in the language major or minor. FRENCH French Major—Students majoring in French are required to take 36 to 40 hours of upper division credit. The following numbered courses are required: 101, 102, 103, 121, 122, 123 and 130. Additional courses may be chosen from the following numbered courses: 110, 151, 152, 153, 154, 155, 156, 165, 170, 181 and 193. French Minor—Students minoring in French are required to take 18 hours of upper division credit which must include the following numbered courses: 101, 102, 103, 121, 122, and 123. French Teaching Major—will complete the program outlined above for French Majors except that they must take 161. French Teaching Minor—will complete the program outlined above for French Minors, and in addition, must take 130 and 161. Courses of Instruction 1. Elementary French—Spoken and written French of moderate difficulty. A (5). Staff 2. Elementary French—Continuation of French 1. Prerequisite: French 1 or equivalent. W (5). Staff 3. Elementary French—Continuation of French 2. Prerequisite: French 2 or equivalent. S (5). Staff +4. Intermediate French—Grammar and Composition of intermediate level. Progressively advanced reading from modern French author. (It is recommended that French 11 be taken simultaneously with this course.) A (3) Swanson +5. Intermediate French—Continuation of French 4. Prerequisite: French 4 or equivalent. (It is recommended that French 12 be taken simultaneously with this course.) W (3) Swanson +6. Intermediate French—Continuation of French 5. Prerequisite: French 5 or equivalent. (It is recommended that French 13 be taken simultaneously with this course.) S (3) Swanson +11. Conversational French—Intensive development of oral expression and active vocabulary through pronunciation drills, controlled discussions on subjects of current interest, and oral practice on assigned topics, vocabulary, idioms, and cultural items. (It is recommended that French 4 be taken simultaneously with this course.) A (2) Moffett +12. Conversational French—Continuation of French 11. Travel and Study Abroad—Language, culture and history of France taught in Europe by members of the Weber State College faculty during summer tours arranged by the Foreign Language Department. French Phonetics—An advanced course in the principles of Foreign Language Phonetics, with practical work in the analysis and correction of faulty pronunciation.
