Show Mayor Butler, Duncan Murray and Randy Phipps all received a Certificate of Leadership for their work in preserving the Weber River and other water ways in the community. It was presented by Dr. George Burbidge of the Utah Flood Plain Management Association (UFPMA). The awards were originally presented at the UFPMA convention in St. George in October, but were presented before our City Council on December 7, 2001. On December 7, City Historian Elna Lucas, presented a 500 page history of Marriott-Slaterville to the City Council. The history touched on events over the past 150 years, culminating in the incorporation of the two communities, and the ensuing first year of self-governance. She was honored with a resolution of appreciation for her work. The annual Christmas Party for officials and staff was held on December 13, 2001. The open house function was organized by Shauna Meyerhoffer, with the highlight being a light buffet. Door prizes were awarded at the well-attended event. The Mayor and Council passed a resolution to purchase ground for a new park on 1700 South. Funds from the state's Quality Growth Commission were joined with City funds to make the purchase. A trail system along the Weber River is planned, which will be a feature of this first park owned by the City. 3 |
