This information has left behind rich histories, stories and important information regarding the history of the Marriott-Slaterville area. |

Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY JULY 2001 The annual golf tournament at Mulligans on July 3, was a great success under the direction of Danny Brown. The tournament at Mulligans attracted 85 golfers from the community. Prizes were awarded and we are told the golfing, and sunburns, were enjoyed by all. The July 3rd and 4th celebrations were a great success under the able direction of Shauna Meyerhoffer A good dinner, a fine parade, food, games and sports were enjoyed by all in attendance. We also thank Shauna Meyerhoffer, Darren DeVries, Pam Slater and Will Holley for their help in the events. A highlight of the celebration was the 2nd Annual Chess and Checker Tournament, under the direction of Gerald Taylor. There were 22 participants in four age groups of Checker players and one group of Chess. Winners were: Eleven and under: Dennis Mecham 12-14: Mike Halacy 15-18: Chace Holley 26 and over: Girma Hunde Chess: Travis Williams Three residents filed for designation as an Agricultural Protection Area under the 1997 State Law authorizing such protection for individuals who wished to maintain farms. Under this law, the owner is protected from suits by individuals in subsequent nearby sub-divisions for maintaining agriculture and/or farm animals. The City has set the minimum acreage for such protection areas at five (5) acres. Those filing for protection are Melvin Meyerhoffer, 1200 West 400 North; Dennis Ilium, 1200 West and 700 North, and Grant Butler, 3100 W. Pioneer Road. Nominations for the Annual Good Neighbor Award were requested. This award is for those individuals who are doing an outstanding job of improving the community. Nominations must be received by the City by August 31, 2001. The Marriott-Slaterville Park Committee, collectively or by assigned individuals, has visited several parks/parkways to garner ideas, and assess successes and weaknesses in those areas. On July 2, Jerry Goodspeed, University of Utah Extension Service Horticulturist for Weber County, walked through the proposed area with committee members. On July 16, the Layton City Commons and the Ogden Nature Center were visited. Information on plans for the Utah State University Botanical Gardens currently being implemented have been received. A two-page community survey was developed and distributed with The Pioneer Post which will provide public input of the development of the park. The completed forms are to be 146 |
