Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY MAY 2001 May did not bring us much needed rain and the Bona Vista Water District has asked the City to discourage watering lawns between 10:00 a.m and 2:00 p.m. Everyone is asked to conserve water wherever possible. UDOT has notified the City that it intends to widen 1900 West to five lanes from Weber River over the 12th Street overpass. Undoubtedly this will entail traffic delays and require extra caution when driving. Preliminary Founder's Day Celebration plans for July 3th and 4th were announced and entries for the parade were sought. The 2001 Parks and Recreation Program was also announced. Tennis lessons are available for those interested. The annual July Golf Tournament will be held July 7, 2001. A Softball tournament and a checker/chess tournament will also be held during the summer. The Planning Commission has recommended final approval of a new business park at 1200 West and 1700 South, with KBC as the developer. The request will now go to the Mayor and Council for consideration. Gerald Bischoff was elected as Chairman of the Planning Commission for the remainder of 2001, replacing Randy Phipps. The Parks and Recreation Department formed a Parks Committee with volunteer local residents to direct the planning and improvement of parks operated by the community. Director Jim Ito selected Lynette Deru, Master Gardener with Urban Forestry training, as Chairman of the Committee. The other committee members are Regina Smout, Master Gardener with Urban Forestry training, James Elmer, Heidi Currie and Michael Hunsaker. Melinda Redman of Logan is serving as Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Parks and Recreation Department, and works with the new committee. The first meeting was held May 9, 2001. The major goal is to design the new river walk way for the park land purchased earlier. Mayor Butler's ducks made media news again when he was recently interviewed by Channel 2 news about his wayward and wandering fowl. Bits and Pieces Included in the 2001 graduating class from Fremont High School on May 29 were Marriott-Slaterville City youth. We are proud of Chad Brown, Jared Brown, Jeremy Butler, Kryston Coy, Ashlee Currie, Marc Deru, Amy Grant, Kellen Green, Jennifer Hancock, Jamie Hirschi, Chace Holley, Katie Holmes, Amiee Ingram, Jenifer Okey, Travis Oram, Lynette Schofield, Jordan Slater, Kyley Slater, Rebekah Slater, Angela Spencer, Jed Stanger, Shay Tittensor, and Justin Wilson.
