Show Residents living on 2800 West have been patiently enduring the torn up roads and fields with the ensuing dust as a sewer line was laid by West Haven City Sewer District along their thoroughfare. The City required the contractor to wait until proper road mix was available to repave the road with a view to avoid replacement problems. Congratulations go to Dennis Ilium, our Council President, and his team who took 3rd place in the Wild Cow Milking Contest at the Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo. In August we welcomed a new business, Rent-2-Own at 1200 West and 1200 South. Residents extended their best wishes for success in their endeavor. The 2nd Annual Field of Dreams Softball Tournament, open for children and adults, was held August 2 and 3, 2001, at the Slaterville Park, commencing at 5:00 p.m. The Roberts Running Rebels were the champions in a close, exciting game at the Park, with the final score of 11 to 10. Thanks to Trudy Hill who was in charge, and to focal businesses who donated prizes! Special recognition is extended to the sponsors of our 2001 summer activities. We appreciate the support of the 12th Street Texaco Station - Top Stop, Mulligans Golf Course, Jerry's Nursery, Papa Murphys, Pointe Theater, Pilot Travel Center, D. J. Nursery, the Vineyard Restaurant, Steve's Car Care, the Pizza Hut at 7th Street, Ogden Pizzeria, Subway, and Pleasant Valley Golf Course. August was a busy month of continuing activities of the Marriott-Slaterville Park Committee. They visited many local parks to gain insight and suggestions. August 31 was the deadline for the return of the Community Survey which will be evaluated by the committee. Countless hours of work has been performed in the 17th Street park by volunteer Darrell Mecham. He has removed many loads of trash and brought in loads of top soil. He has cut down dead trees, trimmed live trees into improved shapes, removed many trash trees and brush, and cleaned around the designated wetland. This provides access to it so that the Mosquito Abatement trucks can carry out their spray program. He has leveled the area, and filled in manmade depressions. Steve Mecham has worked extensively with him. A Night of Music at the Marriott Park was held on August 6, 2001, at the Marriott Park, commencing at 6:30 p.m. It featured original songs by Shawn Holley, line dancing with Trudy Slater and Lynette Deru, and the talents of Phil, Randall, Jake and Tyler, the Same All Around Rock Band. Council member Rob Smout and Alan Brown, with help from the City staff, are getting the City website updated. Those with internet capabilities can find information about the City, its activities, and those people involved in making the City government operate. The website is www.mscity.net. The email address is mscity@webpipe.net. Another UDOT transportation meeting was held in July, which Councilman Orvil Holley attended. With the exception of West Weber, no other community was represented. This would seem to indicate that other area communities no longer expect their area to be impacted by Legacy Highway in the future, which does not appear to be good news for our City. In September the City again entered into an interlocal agreement with Weber County for technical forensic services provided by the Weber County Sheriff's Office. An additional agreement is with the Weber Fire District for services, which will include fire code enforcement, code adoption processes, building and site plan reviews, impact fees and issuance of permits and citations. The Meyerhoffer and Van Leeuwen families donated funds to aid in the purchase of six monument type entryway signs for the City. The signs were designed by the City with help from an outdoor sign company and will be constructed to meet road standards. They will depict the rural characteristics of our area. Further funds are sought for the purchase of additional entryway signs. UDOT delayed the widening of 1900 West and 12th Street until a later date because of delays in designing, storm water control and property acquisition. 64 |
