Show JO ANNE KEEFFER October 3, 2000 Assistant City Editor Standard-Examiner P.O. Box 951 Ogden, Utah 84402-0951 Dear Assistant City Editor, I have been the Standard-Examiner correspondent for Marriott-Slaterville since December 1999. In the past six months I had little, if any, communication from Cheryl Buchta. I attended city council meetings, emailed reports to Cheryl, measured the printed articles and then submitted a pay sheet. While it was sometimes frustrating to be so totally out of the loop (especially since I was told when I interviewed for the position that there would be monthly correspondents' meetings), the system was working. However, my last submission, which I emailed to Cheryl following the September 5 city council meeting, was both unacknowledged and unpublished. Since then, my husband pointed out advertisement seeking an assistant city editor. Several days later, I began to see articles" by Cheryl Buchta, Standard-Examiner staff." I'm now assuming that Cheryl is no longer the assistant city editor and that she didn't pass my last submission on to her replacement. Marriott-Slaterville is a dynamic little city with enthusiastic, forward-thinking leaders dedicated to creating the type of community citizens want. The leaders, who hold themselves to high standards of fiscal accountability, constantly strive to do more with less, and the entire community is infused with a volunteer spirit. In 1999, the Utah House of Representatives named Marriott-Slaterville the state's only open space preservation city. The city is currently planning an open space park along the Weber River and recently granted a conservation easement limiting the development allowed in the area.. They deserve to have happenings in their city reported in the local newspaper. In any event, my situation has also changed, and I am no longer free to cover the Marriott-Slaterville city council meetings held on the first and third Thursdays of each month. Therefore, I am resigning that position, effective immediately, and a new correspondent needs to be assigned to Marriot-Slaterville. Sincerely, Jo Anne Keeffer 1300 WEST PLEASANT VIEW DRIVE OGDEN, UTAH 84414 PHONE: (801)737-9705 EMAIL: JKEEFFER@MSGTO.COM 13 |
