Show "Your Neighborhood" supplement to The Standard Examiner, December 28, 2000 About Marriott-Slaterville Name of city and how it got its names Marriott-slaterville is made up of two townships Marriott and Slaterville. Population: 1,300. Founding date and who founded it: Marriott was settled in 1855 when John Marriott was sent to establish a new settlement At the time it was overrun by wolves and bears. Slaterville was settled in 1850 and was initially known as Mill Creek. Three original families wanted the city named after them, Richard Slater won the draw. Notable historical events: The two townships voted for incorporation on August 4, 1998. Notable current or former residents: J.
