Show initiated the process of procuring the seed, trees and shrubs. The DWR will also provide volunteers to help with the planting. The welcome DWR assistance will be of immeasurable help to the City in developing the park. Glen McFarland received the December 2001 Volunteer Service Award for his excellent service as City Magistrate since the inception of the City. The tragic terrorist attack on the World Trade Centers September 11, 2001, left us, with the rest of the nation, shocked and saddened. Changes occurred, both evident and those within. Our country is again at war--a different type, one against terrorists, not specifically nations. Increased security abounds; warnings and violations are aired almost daily. The citizens of the United States have drawn together in a patriotism not seen since World War II. Here in our community, we too mourn with those who suffer, unite in recovery, and feel more strongly the blessings of living in this great country. Two of the community's oldest citizens celebrated birthdays recently. DeLos Bingham celebrated his 90th birthday in November, and Alta Pierce celebrated her 90th in December. Both of these stalwart citizens voted in our recent election. Ella Bartholomew Fryer is 92 and Frankie Pierce is 94. Violet Stratton will celebrate her 92nd birthday in January and Julian Powell will be 91, also in January. We salute these long-time residents of our City. 67 |
