Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY DECEMBER 2000 A new compilation of our City History was completed in December. This month, Elna Lucas, City Historian, completed a 500 page history of Marriott-Slaterville over the last 150 years. Her history books are a marvelous compilation of early pioneer historical accounts, the metamorphisms of the community since it was settled, newspaper accounts, and chronicles of the township and incorporation. Elna was honored with a resolution of appreciation for her work on the history of the community. Generations will enjoy the rich history of our community. The annual Christmas Party for volunteers and officials was held this month. As usual, Shauna Meyerhoffer, Community Activities, did an outstanding job in organizing this event. Door prizes were awarded at the open house style function, with food and fun for all. The Mayor and Council passed the resolution to finalize the purchase of a new park on 1700 South. This park will be purchased with funds from the state's Quality Growth Commission and the city and will create the city's first park and trail system along the Weber River. Mayor Butler, Duncan Murray and Randy Phipps were all awarded a Certificate of Leadership, presented by Dr. George Burbidge of the Utah Flood Plain Management Association (UFPMA) for work in preserving the Weber River and other water ways in the community. The awards were originally presented in October in St. George at the UFPMA convention, but were again presented before our City Council. 136 |
