Show General Education Requirements General Education Requirements Specific Requirements —All candidates must include in the 183 credits required for graduation the following: Credits I, Freshmen English 101, 102, 103 9 II. Health Education 101 or 102 or 103 2 III. Physical Education activities 3 (For specified activities see Physical Education Department) IV. The State Requirement in American History, Government and Economics may be satisfied by any of the following: A . Completing one of the following courses: Economics 274, or 430; History 170 or 120 and 121 or 420; Political Science 110; Philosophy 320. (Economics 274; History 120, 121, 170; Political Science 110; and Philosophy 320 may also be applied to general education requirements.) B . Presenting advanced placement credit in American History or suitable transfer courses from other institutions. C . Passing a special examination administered before the end of the second week of each quarter under the direction of the Dean of the School of Social Science. V. Mathematics Competency—satisfied by having either of the following: A . A predicted GPA in mathematics of 2.0 or better. (Based on high school mathematics grades combined with ACT scores.) B . By achieving a score of 17 or above on the special ACT math proficiency exam available through the WSC Testing Center. Note —It is recommended that students complete this requirement early in their college careers to assist them in other Academic areas. Students may prepare themselves to meet this requirement by self-study, tutoring or courses which teach mathematics concepts. General Education Area Requirements —The General Education Program described in the following sections is required of all students who receive a bachelor degree from Weber State College. To provide the broadest possible background in general education the selection of courses should depend upon the high school preparation. The student who has done well in a high school course in a given field should not select a course that might repeat essentially the same subject matter. Humanities Area Bachelor of Arts: Select 15 credit hours from at least 4 groups. Bachelor of Science: Select 9 credit hours from at least 2 groups. Bachelor of General Studies: Select 12 credit hours from at least 3 groups One literature course is required for all three degrees (group VI). Groups: I.
