Show Art Art Program: Graphic Design — Associate of Applied Science Degree I. General Requirements: A. Total of 97 credit hours. B. 70 credit hours in major field. C. English 101, Communication 105 and 320, Computer Information Systems PD 101 D. One course in Social Science , two in Natural Science, and one course in Personal Development. E. Elect four credit hours from the following: BUSAD 101 MAN AG 301, 325, MKTNG 301. F. Must have C or better in major courses. G. An overall GPA of 2.00 or C is required. II. Specific Requirements: A. Required:(70 credit hours) Art 111 (3), 112 (3), 113 (3), 116 (3), 117 (3), 118 (3), 302 (3), 303 (3), 241 (3), 242 (3), 243 (3), 244 (3), 245 (3), 446 (3), Photo 101 (5), 319 (4), Photo elective (4); Art 440 (9), or Art 440 (6) and Art 289 (3). General Requirements: A. A minimum of 93 credit hours. The required courses in major field, not to exceed 67 credit hours. English 101, and English 102 or Communication 102. At least 20 hours from the general education courses listed in the catalog, including at least one course in each of the four areas: Humanities, Natural Science, Social Science and Personal Development. Must have C or better in major courses. An overall GPA of 2.00 or C is required. II. Specific Requirements: A. ART COURSES HU101. Introduction to Art (3) Survey course (lecture) for the non-art major student. HU105. Basic Drawing (3) Introductory course for the non-art major student, emphasizing perception, analysis and composition in various drawing media from both representational and inventive viewpoints. 111. Drawing I (3) The first drawing class in a series of three that serve as a foundation for art majors. Perceptual and conceptual development stressed. Variety of materials and procedures investigated. 112. Drawing II (3) The second drawing class in a series of three that serve as a foundation for art majors. Perceptual and conceptual development stressed. Variety of materials and procedures investigated. Prerequisite: Art 111. 113. Drawing III (3) The third drawing class in a series of three that serve as a foundation for art majors. Perceptual and conceptual development stressed. Variety of materials and procedures investigated. Prerequisite: Art 112. 116. Design I (3) Principles and theories of two-dimensional design in varied media. 117. Design II (3) Organization of plastic elements in three- dimensional design. 118. Design III (3) Theory and application of color and design. 130. Ceramics I (3) Introduction to ceramic design and forming techniques including basic handbuilding and wheelthrowing. Primitive and stoneware fire- ing techniques. 141. Pen Lettering (3) Letter structure and alphabet drill with speed- ball type pens and the use of markers. 142. Brush Lettering (3) Elements of free-hand brush lettering. 154. Beginning Weaving (3) Introduction to 4-harness floor loom weaving. Includes basic weave and fiber structure and techniques. 180. Introduction to Art (3) Survey course (lecture) for the art major. 210. Perspective (3) Parallel, oblique, and cylindrical perspective adapted to needs of art and architecture students. 222. Beginning Intaglio (3) Introduction of various intaglio processes including etching, engraving, drypoint, aquatint, soft ground and embossing. 223. Beginning Screenprinting (3) Introduction to the screenprinting process with emphasis on the basic techniques of cut film, paper stencil, tusche resist and simple photographic stencils. 224. Beginning Lithography (3) Introduction to lithography with emphasis on crayon and tusche techniques and black and white printings. 231. Ceramics II (3) Handbuilt and wheel thrown problems in ceramics with emphasis on design. Introduction to ceramic decoration. Raku and stoneware firing techniques. Prerequisite: Art 130. 235. Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design (3) Introduction to work in metal and other materials with emphasis on basic methods and techniques. 241. Advanced Lettering Applied (3) The course is designed to provide lettering expertise in the areas of sign painting, show cards, certificates, announcements, and written forms. Prerequisites: Art 141 and 142 or consent of instructor. 242.
