Graduate School Admissions Test —Candidates applying to the graduate program in education are required to write either the GRE aptitude test or the Miller Analogy Test as part of the admission requirements. a. Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) and the Miller Analogy Test — The GRE is offered five times each year at testing centers in most states. Registration forms and test dates may be obtained at the Testing Center. The Miller Analogy Test (MAT) is administered by appointment at the Testing Center. 5. Coursework Tests —are administered at the Testing Center for various academic departments on the campus. This service affords the faculty additional time for preparation or instruction that they would ordinarily need to use for test administration. It also allows students flexibility in determining when it is most convenient and beneficial for them to take their coursework tests. The testing hours for such tests are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Summer hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 to 4:30 p.m. The Testing Center is located in the Library, lower level, room 45. SERVICES FOR HANDICAPPED STUDENTS Services for Disabled Students at Weber State College were organized to coordinate academic support services for students with physical impairments. This office coordinates the following services: interpreting, note-taking, reading, counseling, career planning and placement, parking, tutoring, housing, wheelchair attendance, legal and medical assistance, access to TTY machine, Kurzwell reading machine, and other needs disabled students might have. Weber State College prohibits discrimination on the basis of handicap in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Discrimination is prohibited in recruitment for admission, admission and treatment of students, housing, financial assistance, employment, counseling and placement service, health services, physical education and athletics, social organization, etc.. WOMEN'S EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE CENTER The purpose of the Women's Educational Resource Center is to provide counseling, advisement and support services to the older student returning to school. Also, the center seeks to promote better understanding of gender- based issues among students, faculty and staff. Services of the center are designed to provide a supportive environment, help students overcome barriers, establish objectives and achieve their academic goals. The following programs and workshops are offered to assist students: 58 Science Anxiety Desensitization Advisement Assertiveness Training Divorce Groups Student Affairs Brown Bag Seminars Self-Defeating Behavior Seminar Older Wiser Learner Group Individual Counseling STUDENT HEALTH CENTER The Health Service of Weber State College has been established for the education and protection of students. In the event a student is injured or becomes suddenly ill while on campus the Office of Campus Police should be called, phone 626-6460. Students will then be transported to their doctor, the Student Health Center, or the hospital, for care. After office hours, students should call their private physician, or Campus Police for transportation to the hospital. The Student Health Center is located in Annex IV, just north of the Of- 59 -GeflBnrf— The Center is open to all and is located in the J. Farrell Shepherd Union Building, room 353. LEARNING CENTER The Learning Center provides a variety of services designed to assist students in achieving their academic goals. The following services are available in the basement of the library or at Satellite Centers located on campus: Educational Planning provides one-to-one assistance in the development of one, two and four year educational plans. Academic Tutoring is provided in most academic subject areas and is designed to help students at all ability levels. Basic Skills Instruction assists students in gaining college level reading, writing, spelling, vocabulary and mathematic skills. Personal Development Instruction assists student in acquiring effective study and test taking skills; in overcoming a lack of academic motivation and the motivation of behavior that gets in the way of one being an effective student. Individualized Learning Programs to assist students in improvement of academic skills. Programs are developed in many subject areas in cooperation with appropriate academic departments. Modularized Reading Programs in general comprehension, skimming and scanning, critical reading, increasing reading rate, etc. Educational Equipment that students may need to complete assignments such as computer terminals, calculators, video and audio tape players and film strip and slide projectors. All Learning Center educational programs are developed in cooperation with the appropriate academic departments.
