Simkins, Associate Dean The programs of the School of Business and Economics prepare individuals for careers in accounting, management, marketing, finance, real estate, economics, business education, and administrative systems. Such preparation involves the analysis and cultivation of decision making skills, leadership methods and styles, research concepts and techniques, and an informed awareness of our American economic system. REQUIREMENTS FOR BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS MAJORS Baccalaureate Degree Requirements —Candidates for the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree in the School of Business and Economics must satisfy the following requirements: I. College Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). Economics SS274 (5) or 430 (4) is recommended to satisfy the state requirement. B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). II. School of Business and Economics Requirements*: A. Advanced Standing Requirements (45 credit hours): Advanced standing is required for entry into all upper division courses (see Registration Restriction below). 1. Specific Bachelor Degree General Education courses required of Business and Economics majors (14 credit hours): Mathematics 107 (5), Economics SS101 (5), Computer Information Systems PD101 (4). 2. Pre-Business Core (31 credit hours): Economics 102 (3), 160 (4), 260 (4), 261 (4); Accounting 201 (4), 202 (4), 203 (4); Business Education 225 (4). B. Upper Division Business Core (28 credit hours) Economics 301 or 302 or 303 (4); Finance 320 (4) Management 301 (4), 364 (4); Marketing 301 (4) Business Administration 320 (4), 478 (4). III. Major Requirements: These requirements are outlined in the Departmental sections of the catalog. "School requirements are slightly modified for the Business Education/Administrative Systems Department (see Departmental section of the catalog for requirements of this department). 184 Business & Economis Requirements Graduation Requirements — 1. All students seeking a bachelor degree in any major offered by the School of Business and Economics must achieve at least a 2.50 GPA in the Upper Division Business Core and the major requirements combined. 2. 'D' grades are not acceptable in any business and economic course required for graduation in the School of Business and Economics. 3. Upper Division Business Core courses cannot be used to fill major requirements. 4. Credit earned more than 10 years earlier than the proposed date of graduation will not be accepted toward School or major requirements unless validated through a challenge examination or department chairperson approval. 5. Any deviations from the printed School of Business and Economics graduation requirements must be approved by the department chairperson and the dean prior to taking the course(s) in question. Minor Requirements — 1. Minor requirements in the respective departments are outlined in the Department sections of the catalog. 2. A 2.3 average GPA is required for all minors in the School. 3. Minors are not required of students majoring in the School of Business and Economics except for those who elect the Bachelor of Arts degree in General Economics. Advisement — Programs within the School of Business and Economics are designed for flexibility in a student's course of study. This flexibility however, makes it extremely important for students to confer regularly with their advisers to avoid duplication of requirements, to efficiently complete the Advanced Standing requirement, and to insure continued progress toward graduation. Students who have not completed the Advanced Standing requirement will receive their advisement from the School of Business and Economics adviser. All students who have achieved Advanced Standing will receive their advisement from faculty advisers assigned by the department in which a student has selected a major. Registration Restrictions — 1. Advanced Standing Requirement — a. All students seeking a bachelor degree in any major offered by the School of Business and Economics must complete this requirement prior to registering for any upper division courses offered by the School of Business and Economics. Advanced Standing status is achieved by completion of the courses listed in II. A. above with a GPA of 2.3 or better in those courses combined. b. Students with freshman or sophomore status cannot register for upper division courses in the School of Business and Economics without the instructor's or department chairperson's approval. c.
