LITTLEFIELD PRESIDENT OF SAN FRANCISCO CHAMBER OF COMMERCE and EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF UTAH CONSTRUCTION COMPANY I am delighted to have the opportunity of meeting with you this evening, for we have much in common, you and I, All of us are dedicated to the development of the Bay Region in general and of Contra Costa County in particular. Certainly there is no need to dwell long on Contra Costa County or its future growth. To try to sell Contra Costa County to this audience would he as unnecessary as trying to convince an eskimo on the need for warm clothing or Henry Ford on the fact that the automobile is here to stay. You know as well as I do that Contra Costa County stands in the path of a growth that will see its population virtually double in the next 15 years and treble in the next 35 years. Even the lowest projection of population growth contemplates an increase of 220% over a 35 year period. Contrast this if you will with the projections of population for San Francisco, where the most optimistic estimates foresee a change of 24%. Thirty-five years at first seemed a long way off to me until I realized that at the end of that time my three children will be no older than I am now.
