Show Suggested Remarks for President Littlefield Prepared by: At the Life Underwriters Dinner, Publicity Dept., April 5, 1956, Fairmont Hotel S.F. Chamber Thank you, Mr._ I appreciate the opportunity of greeting you tonight, on behalf of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. We are proud to be a co-sponsor of this notable and gala occasion. I think it interesting that longevity, which is probably the matter of greatest professional concern to life insurance companies, is the subject of this meeting tonight! The life insurance industry in San Francisco, exemplified by the Life Underwriters Asssociation, has reached a very mature age ...and I think it's high time, in view of the very mature sums of money it handles each year! I understand that life insurance now in force in the Bay Area stands at nearly six billion dollarsand that requires a lot in premiums! My organization, the Chamber of Commerce, is twice your age...(we celebrated our 100th anniversary a few years ago)...but if only I had the chance, I'd gladly trade the dignity of a centenarian for the privilege of handling just about one tenth of the cold hard cash that has passed through your hands in half the time! Seriously, I do want to congratulate you on this proud occasion--and to tell you sincerely that we're gratified to number you as members of our economic family. We could not do without you...your important payrolls... the tremendous benefits which accrue to our citizens...and your forthright and enlightened leadership in business and civic fields. And so I extend to you the greetings and best wishes of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce on this, your anniversary night; and express the hope that your second fifty years be every bit as successful as your first! |
