Show 10 - States. Earnings from these operations alone will compare favorably with those from heavy construction activities in any year in our history. This is without the benefit of any earnings this year from two mining reserves of great potential value. The first of these is our uranium properties in the Shirley Basin in Wyoming, the newest and one of the most exciting uranium discoveries in the world, with Utah Construction & Mining Co. holding the greatest share of the indicated reserves. The second is a huge reserve of subbituminous coal located in the Four Corners Area of New Mexico. The company has under negotiation a 35-year contract with Arizona Public Service Company under which we would deliver coal at the mouth of the mine to a large electrical generating plant to be owned by the Utility and, as you can readily see, this gives promise of increased earnings on a long-term basis having the stability of the public utility industry. 2, Besides the mining operations conducted directly by the company, Utah owns stock in three important affiliated mining companies: 25% of the Pima Mining Company, which is operating profitably a copper mine and mill near Tucson; 60% of Lucky Mc Uranium Corporation, which is the largest operator In the Gas Hills field of Wyoming; and 41-1/4% of the equity stock and half the voting stock of the Marcona Mining Company, which operates a very extensive iron ore mine in Peru. Here again the company has been fortunate in acquiring assets in profitable mines where the return on the original cost is very satisfying indeed. For example, Utah paid 10 a share for its Lucky Mc stock which earned 86 a share for its fiscal year ending June 30, 1959 |
