Show Rotary Luncheon - 3 - growth. These problems must be solved as they arise or they will strangle the future growth and undermine our prosperity. Certainly with this audience I need not dwell for long on the fact that growth is good - good for the community, good for business, essential for sustained prosperity and full employment. In you could buy land for $15 a lot south of Market Street and $16 a lot north of Market. Growth is the source of rising property values, expanding business and employment, the primary cause of the fact that today business in San Francisco is at the highest level in its history. I could stand here and relate to you the tremendous progress that San Francisco has made, how we are the headquarters city for the world's largest bank, the world's largest gas and electric company, the world's second largest railroad, and the nation's third largest oil producer. We're the headquarters city for 30 of the world's largest corporations with combined assets of over 2$ million dollars. Our city is first on the Pacific Coast in waterborne commerce, first as a financial and security market, first as a market and distribution center, first in per capita income and buying. Perhaps as President of the Chamber of Commerce that might be all I would be expected to do. However, rather than devote our time to convincing each other how good we are, it seems to me more profitable to devote our attention to the problems facing us, problems that must be solved if we are to remain progressive and prosperous, and then to examine a way of solving those problems.
