Furthermore this captain was a woman, near-sighted and now my wife. It has been my proud boast that during the war I married the entire women's French Air Force stationed in this country -- but, coming as I do from Utah, I find that this statement demands further amplification. At the time of our marriage she was the only female member of the French Air Force left in this country and because she was the only one the French Air Mission applied to her the same rules that they used for the male members of the Air Force. While it helped our bank balance, it did not help my self-esteem when after our marriage they raised her salary still further for having acquired a dependent. TO put the problem in the proper perspective I was not humiliated to the point where I refused to take the money. Here, before me, is absolute repudiation of trie old theory that woman's place is behind an apron; and if there was ever proof of what she can do behind an executive's desk, you have furnished it.
