Show DRAFT OF SP H TO BE GIVEN TO WORLD BUSINESS STUDENTS AT SAN FRANCISCO STATE COLLEGE ON MAY 1, 1956 UTAH CONSTRUCTION COMPANY OVERSEAS Professor Mears, ladies, and gentlemen: I am delighted to have the opportunity to meet with you tonight to discuss Utah Construction Company's operations overseas. As President of the Chamber of Commerce I am called upon so often to speak on subjects that I know nothing about that I find it a welcome relief to talk on something that at least I know something about. The basic policy of Utah Construction Company on foreign work can be stated something like this. We will work anywhere in the free world that United States policy permits, where the political climate is tolerable, where the returns in terms of profit appear attractive in relationship to the risks involved, and where the problem in repatriating our investment and our profits is reasonably promising. Utah Construction Company will not work in those countries where the hey to a contract or a concession is the crossed palm, where the political and investment climate is unhealthy or where the U. S. national policy looks with disfavor. There is enough work in progress or in prospect so that this policy has allowed us to obtain all of the off-shore work that we could perform within the limitations of our personnel, financial resources and within our ability to win the contracts in the competitive arena. Utah Construction Company directly or though subsidiaries and affiliates is presently engaged in foreign commerce in the following off-shore areas: |
