Show Mr. Chairman and Gentlemen: Chemical Conference 11/9/56 I am delighted to have the privilege of welcoming you here today, for both as the President of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and as an officer of Utah Construction Company I have a special interest in the matters which this conference was convened to discuss. I have just returned yesterday from Australia, and the trip has a direct bearing on my remarks here today. Every one likes to talk about his travels but few are as fortunate as I am to be able to force the matter on a captive audience of this size. They say that traveling is broadening, and any one who has spent 35 hours sitting in a plane can testify to that fact. The route to Australia lies by way of Honolulu, thence to Canton Island, a tiny coral reef, unbelievably hot. Finding it is a triumph of navigation, and the necessity to stop there at all is the most cogent argument yet developed for increasing the flying range of commercial aircraft.
