Fortunately, there are moderating influences at work that have contained the current recession fairly well to manufacturing and mining, and give some promise of an early recovery. Most important of these is the fact that final demand has held up remarkably well. People have continued to buy. The Government has again increased its spending, and this is partially offsetting the decline in business spending.
