Description-The Department of Arts offers a variety of programs which attempt to meet the varied needs of the art major and non-art major student. Programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees are offered to accommodate the person seeking to become an art teacher, a commercial artist in the areas of graphic design or illustration, a photographer with an art background, or an artist with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, and weaving. Associate of Applied Science degrees are offered in interior design and graphic design. Recognition of the importance of the visual arts is increasing. Many art majors realize the satisfaction of personal creativity and are able to influence the visual environment of our technological society. Non art-majors find rewarding experiences in art that satisfy their creative needs, not only in general education, but also in the studio classes where personal and creative experiences are provided. Education - All art majors undergo a concentrated foundation program during the freshman year which prepares them for advanced courses within the art program. Departmental course offerings are enriched with workshops and special classes not offered in the regular curriculum. The Department of Art is also committed to preparing those students desiring further education for graduate programs. The record shows that art students from Weber State College have had success in gaining acceptance to and completing graduate programs throughout the United States. Career Outlook —Many students have completed degrees in art with the knowledge that their training will enrich their lives even if they choose some other area as a means of support. However, many students majoring in art are finding rewarding jobs as art teachers, potters, painters, sculptors, weavers, jewelry designers, printmakers, photographers, sign painters! graphic designers, illustrators, exhibition and display artists, interior designers, etc. Studio Fees-Studio fees are required of students enrolled in the following art classes: ceramics, graphic design, jewelry design, photography, printmaking, sculpture and weaving. Because of changes in the costs of art materials, the fee will be determined on a yearly basis. Please contact the department of Art regarding possible revisions in course content and/or degree requirements. 129 TJufejss llaftiraT |
