Show Mathematics Mathematics IV. Applied Mathematics Emphasis: A Mathematics courses required(35 credit hours): Mathematics 211 (5), 212 (5), 213 (5), 300 (3), 320 (5), 451 (4), 452 (4) or 372 (4), 453 (4). B. Mathematics courses to be elected from (18 credit hours). Must include one complete sequence from the sequences B or E. Mathematics 335 (3), 341 (4), 342 (4), 343 (4), 381 (3), 461 (3), 462 (3), 463 (3). Other mathematics courses numbered above 308 may be substituted with departmental approval. C Support courses required: (38 credit hours) Physics 261 (4), 262 (4), 263 (4), 264 (1), 265 (1), 266 (1). (These courses may be replaced with 15 credits of approved courses in another area). Computer Information Systems 250 (3) or Computer Information Systems 260 (3) and an additional 20 credit hours of approved credits in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Information Systems, Pre- Engineering or Business. V. Mathematics Teaching Emphasis: A Mathematics courses required (35 credit hours): Mathematics 211 (5), 212 (5), 213 (5), 300 (3), 320 (5), 301 (3), 310 (3), 312 (3), 314 (3). B. Mathematics courses to be elected from (16 credit hours). Must include one complete sequence from the sequences A.B.C. Mathematics 331 (3), 332 (3), 335 (3), 341 (4), 342 (4), 343 (4), 421 (3), 422 (3), 423 (3), 451 (4), 461 (3).Other mathematics courses numbered above 308 may be substituted with departmental approval. C. Support courses required: Communication 102 (3). Courses submitted to satisfy the Physical Science area requirement must include 10 hours from the following: Physics 261 (4), 262 (4), 263 (4), 264 (1), 265 (1), 266 (1) and/or Chemistry 121 (5), 122 (5). Program: Mathematics Departmental Honors I. General Requirements: A. Enroll in General Honors Program and complete at least 10 hours of General Honors courses. B. Maintain an overall GPA of 3.3 and a mathematics GPA of 3.3. C. Fulfill the requirements for the departmental Mathematics major. II. Specific Requirements: A. In fulfilling the requirements for a Mathematics major, take at least 40 hours of courses numbered above 308 (instead of the normal 35 hours). 162 B. C. Among these 40 hours should be 15 hours in courses taken for Honors credit, 3 hours of which will be in Mathematics 475. Permission from the department chairperson should be sought before registering in a course for Honors credit. A written agreement should be reached with the appropriate professor regarding the work expected for Honors credit. Mathematics courses required (20 credit hours): Mathematics 107 (5), 211 (5), 212 (5), 213 (5). 2. Mathematics courses to be elected from (8 credit hours): Mathematics 310 (3), 312 (3), 314 (3), 320 (5), 331 (3), 332 (3), 335 (3), 341 (4), 342 (4), 343 (4), 381 (3), 421 (3), 422 (3), 423 (3), 451 (4), 452 (4) or 372 (4), 453 (4) or other approved courses. College Arithmetic (3) Fundmental concepts of arithmetic. 101. First Course in Algebra (5) Sets, relations, functions, postive and negative numbers, rational expressions, linear equations and inequalities, polynomial functions. 102. Concepts in Mathematics (4) Introduction to mathematical methods. Application of mathematics in various areas. 105. Intermediate Algebra (5) Exponents and radicals, exponentials and logarithms, polynomial and rational functions, guadratic functions, systems of equations, Prerequisite: Mathematics 101 or placement test. 106. Trigonometry (5) Trigonometric functions and their properties.
