Show Music Music Program: Music Departmental Honors I. General Requirements: A. Enroll in General Honors Program and complete at least 10 hours of General Honors courses. B. Maintain an overall GPA of 3.3. C. Fulfill requirements for one of the Music majors: Teaching Major in Music Education with Instrumental-Choral Emphasis, Teaching Major in Music Education with Choral Emphasis, Departmental Major in Music, Teaching Major in Music Education with Instrumental Emphsis, and Departmental Major in Music with Emphasis in Piano. II. Specific Requirements: A. In fulfilling requirements for one of the Music majors, take at least twenty credit hours among these requirements in courses taken for Music Honors credit. B. Complete a Music Honors Senior Project in Music 499 in addition to the Senior Recital. C. A student may receive Music Honors credit in any upper division music course with the exception of the following: Music 343, 344, 345, 346, 347, 348, 350, 353, 354, 355, 357, 360, 361. D. Permission from the department chairperson should be sought before registering in a course for Honors credit. A written agreement should be reached with the appropriate professor regarding the work expected for Honors credit. (See Composite and Interdepartmental Programs.) Program: Music Minor I. General Requirements: A. A grade of C or better in all minor courses. Specific Requirements: A. Minimum of 27 credit hours. Music courses required (27 credit hours): II. B. 1. 115 Music 110 (3), 111 (3), 112 (3), 113 (2), 114 (2), (2), 301 (3), 302 (3), 303 (3); and 320 (3). Three credit hours of private study and three credit hours of major ensemble, in consultation with an ad viser. These requirements are recommended, but may be modified to meet individual needs. 170 Program: Music Education Minor I. General Requirements: A. A grade of C or better in all courses for the music minor. B. All music minors must complete performance level requirements before graduation. (Requirement sheets are available at the Music Department office.) II. Specific Requirements: A. Minimum of 30 credit hours. B. Music courses required (total of 30 credit hours): 1. Music 110 (3), 111 (3) 113 (2), 114 (2). Music 112 (3) and 115 (2) required only if needed to pass the Piano Proficiency exam. Music 219 (2), Music 216 (1), 425 (4), or 426 (4). 2. A choice of one of the following: Music 250, 251, 252, 253. (Strongly recommend Music 250). 3. Great Epochs 302 or 303 or Humanities Credit. 4. Electives: Music 339 (3), 428 (3)-as recommended by the adviser. 5. Three credit hours of private study and three credit hours of major ensemble, in consultation with an adviser. C. Share a one hour Senior Recital on major instrument approved by the music faculty. D. Have at least one class in music included in your student teaching experience. E. These requirements are recommended. Music Department advisers may modify to meet individual needs. RScSri neer MUSIC COURSES 100. Private Instruction (1) Individual lessons—vocal or instrumental. For those students not pursuing a major or minor in music. HU101. Introduction to Music (3) Designed to give the non-music student a basic understanding of the language and literature of music. 107. Fundamentals of Musicianship (3) Melody, harmony, rhythm, notation, ear training, sight-singing, and keyboard skills needed to meet entrance requirements for Theory 1. 108. Fundamentals of Musicianship (3) Continuation of Music 107. 109. Fundamentals of Musicianship (3) Continuation of Music 108. 110. Music Theory I (3) The study of elementary harmony, ear train ing, dictation, keyboard harmony, and primary and secondary triads with inversions, non-hormonic tones and modulation. (Includes 2 hour lab). 111. Music Theory I (3) Continuation of Music 110. 112. Music Theory 1 Continuation of Music 111. (3) 113. Theory Lab I (2) Development of aural and psycho-motor skills necessary for excellent musicianship. (To be taken with 110). 114. Theory Lab I (2) Continuation of Music 113.
