Services of the College 2. The Ogden Rotary Club Fund: A sizeable loan fund for worthy students. 3. The Wheelwright Student-Faculty Loan Fund, established in 1946 by David R. Wheelwright. The contribution of $2,000 was made with the idea that it would be a perpetual trust fund to be loaned to worthy needy students and to faculty members. 4. Charyea Club Loan Fund, a small loan fund to assist a limited number of students. 5. Aglaia Club Loan Fund, a small loan fund set up to aid students. 6. David R. Evans Memorial Loan Fund, a small loan fund to assist students in need. 7. The National Defense Education Act (NDEA) of 1958, authorized loans to students who are in attendance at, or desire to attend institutions of higher learning and who qualify for assistance according to the terms of the Act. Application for these funds may be made to the Office of Financial Aid. 8. Federally Insured Loans, which are disbursed through commercial banks, are available to students without the requirement of the CSS parents statement. Repayment of the loan is deferred until the student leaves school. Applications for these funds are available from the Office of Financial Aid. Work-Study Program—Eligible students may receive Work- Study student assistantships, working in approximately the same capacity as the regular student assistantships. In addition, eligible students may work as custodial assistants if they are not qualified for an academic position. To be eligible for the Work-Study Program, a student must be attending Weber State College full time, must maintain a satisfactory grade point average, and must need financial aid. Further information and applications may be obtained from the Financial Aids Office. College Scholarship Service—Weber State College participates in the College Scholarship Service (CSS) of the College Entrance Examination Board. Participants in CSS subscribe to the principle that the amount of financial aid granted a student should be based upon financial need. The CSS assists colleges and universities and other agencies in determining the student's need for financial assistance. Entering students seeking financal 82 Services of the College assistance are required to submit a copy of the Parents' Confidential Statement (PCS) form to the College Scholarship Service, designating Weber State College as one of the recipients. The PCS form may be obtained from a secondary school or the College. FOREIGN STUDENT ADVISEMENT All students from outside the United States who are attending Weber State College on a non-immigrant student visa, come under the direction of the Foreign Student Adviser. Special on-campus advisement is provided for such students. At the beginning of each quarter Foreign Students are required to register with the Foreign Student Adviser. It is also necessary for them to keep him informed concerning such matters as local address, change of address, change of student status, etc. Request for employment permission, immigration certification, extensions of visa, money exchange letters, and transfer of schools, must be submitted through the Foreign Student Office. Assistance is also offered with personal and academic matters through all of the other Student Personnel departments. Foreign Students are urged to consult frequently with their advisor and to keep him informed about problems or special needs. STUDENT HEALTH CENTER The Health Service of Weber State College has been established for the education and protection of students. A medical examination is required of every student before his initial entrance to Weber State College. The college physician will evaluate the results of the examination and shall be the final judge of the student's physical fitness to participate in activities. In the event a student is injured or becomes suddenly ill while on campus, the Security Office should be called, phone 393-0973. The student will then be transported to his doctor, the Student Health Center, or to the hospital, for care. After office hours, the student should call his private physician, or Security Officer for transportation to the hospital. The Student Health Center is located in Annex IV, just north of the Security Office. The center is open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. The health staff consists of a part-time physician, a part- time psychiatrist, who is also consultant to the counseling staff, and a registered nurse.
