Show Arts, Letters and Science — Theatre Arts Theatre Arts Departmental Major—Students majoring in Theatre Arts must complete the following courses: Performance Emphasis, Theatre Arts 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 201, 212, 213, 225, 241, 312, 313, 315, 401, 411, 412, 415, 499, plus 4 hours of theatre electives. Production Emphasis, Theatre Arts 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 225, 241, 242, 245, 341, 343, 351, 354, 355, 401, 499, plus 8 hours of theatre electives. General Theatre Major, Theatre Arts 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 201, 212, 213, 225, 241, 343, 351, 401, 411, 412, 415, 499, plus 5 hours of theatre arts electives. Theatre Arts Departmental Minor—Students minoring in Theatre Arts must complete the following courses: Theatre Arts 111, 112, 113, 114,115, 116, 117, 225, 241 or 343, 411, plus theatre electives to total 30 hours. Minors must participate in at least two Weber State Theatre productions before graduation is approved. It is to the advantage of minors to begin their programs during the freshman year, and a minor advisor from the Department of Theatre Arts should be assigned no later than the end of the sophomore year. Speech and Theatre Arts Teaching Major with Theatre Emphasis-Students taking the composite teaching major in Speech and Theatre Arts with Theatre Arts emphasis must complete the following courses: Theatre Arts 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 201, 212, 213, 225, 241, 343, 351, 401, 411, 412, 415, 471, 499. Speech and Theatre Arts Teaching Major with Speech Emphasis—Students taking the composite teaching major in Speech and Theatre Arts with a Speech emphasis must complete the following courses in Theatre Arts: 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 225, 411, and 471. An additional 5 hours must be selected from the following: Theatre Arts 201, 241, 315, 343, 401, 415. See Communication Department section for Speech requirements. It is to the advantage of minors to begin their programs during the freshman year, and a minor advisor from the Department of Theatre Arts should be assigned no later than the end of the sophomore year. 210 Arts, Letters and Science — Theatre Arts WEBER STATE THEATRE PROGRAM Play Production—Weber State Theatre draws its staff members from the Department of Theatre Arts and the Department of Music. It is under the administrative guidance of the School of Arts, Letters, and Sciences and is sponsored by the Associated Students of Weber State College. Theatre Season—A season of plays is presented each year which includes offerings in both proscenium and flexible production. While preference is given to students, these productions frequently include members of the community as well. The season may include legitimate plays, musicals, dance programs, and reader's theatre. A summer theatre program has been established as part of Weber State summer school offerings. Productions ranging from Children's Theatre to classic works have been included in the program. Recently a Summer Festival has been established which utilizes talent from campus as well as from the community and surrounding areas. Special activities are often included in the total program, such as plays prepared for tour. Courses of Instruction HU101. Survey of Theatre—(Formerly Theatre Arts 5)—Critical appreciation of live theatre for the general student. Affords limited opportunity for work on Weber Theatre productions. A W S (3) 103. Basic Acting (Formerly Theatre Arts 51)—Body control and techniques of pantomime for general student. A (3) 104. Line Reading and Stage Diction (Formerly Theatre Arts 14)-For General student. W (3) 106. Theatre Ballet (Formerly Theatre Arts 37)-Essentials of ballet as it relates to theatrical production. Laboratory sessions geared to preparation for current theatre productions. A W S (1-2) HU111. Introduction to the Theatre (Formerly Theatre Arts 40)—A basic course required of majors, offered first quarter of the freshman year. Covers basic history of the theatre, physical attributes of the theatre, the relationship of playwright, director, designer, and actor. A (2) 211 |
