Show Business and Economics — Office Administration Business and Economics — Office Administration 112. Intermediate Machine Shorthand—Continuation of Office Administration 111. Completion of the entire shorthand theory with practice dictation. An entrance speed of at least 40 wpm. Prerequisite: Office Administration 102 and 111 or equivalent. (Formerly Machine Shorthand Continued) W S (4) 121. Elementary Shorthand—Introduction to theory of Gregg Shorthand system with emphasis upon reading and writing fluency. Not open for credit to students who have had six months of previous shorthand training. Prerequisite: Office Administration 101 or equivalent, or take concurrently. A W (4) 122. Intermediate Shorthand—Continuation of Office Administration 121. Use of the entire shorthand theory in practice dictation. An entrance speed of at least 50 words per minute is required. Not open for credit to students who have completed two years of shorthand. Prerequisites: Office Administration 102 and 121 or equivalent. (Formerly Elementary Shorthand Continued.) A W S (4) 123. Advanced Shorthand—Stenographic shortcuts, abbreviations, phrases and transcription. An entrance speed of at least 70 words per minute is required. Prerequisites: Office Administration 103 and 122 or equivalent. (Formerly Intermediate Shorthand Dictation.) A W S (4) 150. Business Mathematics by Calculating Machines—A study of basic business mathematics—applications in interest calculation, depreciation, payroll, proration, etc. while learning operation of 10-key, rotary, and electronic calculators. (Formerly Business Machines.) A W S (4) 301. Production Typewriting—Special communications forms, statistical reports, legal documents and business letters. Prerequisite: Office Administration 103. (Formerly Advanced Typewriting.) W S (3) 325. Business Communications—Review and application of oral and written communications including executive dictation to secretaries and machines. Prerequisite: English 103. A W S (4) 341. Dictation and Transcription—Speed dictation with stress on fluency and accuracy of writing. An entrance speed of at least 90 words per minute is required. Prerequisites: Office Administration 123 or equivalent. (Formerly Intermediate Shorthand Dictation and Transcription.) A W S (4) 342. Shorthand Speedbuilding—Intense dictation. An entrance speed of at least 110 words per minute is required. Prerequisite OA341 or equivalent. (Formerly Advanced Shorthand.) W S (4) 351. Office Applications Laboratory—Practical integration in secretarial skills, training in office techniques including records management, office equipment, transcription, switchboard, keypunch, MTST automatic typing, and interning of office skills by on-the-job training. Office Applications Laboratory—A continuation in depth of OA351. WS (7) 355. Office Organization and Management—Principles of office organization and management; duties of the manager; selection and training of office personnel; layout and work-flow systems and procedures analysis; forms design and control; selection and care of supplies and equipment. S (3) 361. Methods of Teaching Typewriting—Analysis of textbooks and research into methods of teaching typewriting. Presentation of material on various levels with special emphasis on standards, achievement, testing and grading. S (2) 362. Methods of Teaching Shorthand and Office Practice- Analysis of textbooks and research into methods of teaching shorthand theory, speed and transcription with special emphasis on standards of achievement, testing, grading, and effective planning and organization of course content, standards of work, testing and grading of office practice courses. S (3) 363. Methods of Teaching Business Subjects (Non-skill)— Methods of teaching high school bookkeeping, general business, economics, business law, business math, business English, etc. Analysis of textbooks, and the various methods of presentation of non-skill subjects with special emphasis on student achievement, testing, and grading.
