Show Arts, Letters and Science — Guided Studies When a student is placed in the Guided Studies Program by the Director of Admissions, he is assigned to a member of the Student Counseling Service for personal and academic advisement. His class schedule is arranged in cooperation with and approved by his counselor and includes Guided Studies 101 during his first quarter in attendance. The student is expected to arrange a conference with his counselor well before registration. A student assigned to the Guided Studies Program may apply for transfer to a regular academic or technical program of his choice after completing, with an average grade of "C" or better, Guided Studies 101, English 101, one Life Science or Physical Science course accepted toward the General Education requirement, and one Humanities or Social Science course accepted toward the General Education requirement. A student may have any or all of these requirements waived at any time by transferring into a Trade program. Should he choose initially to go into a trade program these requirements are not applicable. A student assigned to the Guided Studies Program who is interested in trade programs should consult the Director of the Trade-Technical Institute. Courses of Instruction Instructor, Thomas Musgrave Guided Studies 101-Effective Study Skills and Habits. A course designed to initiate the marginal student (but not limited to such) into the college environment and to provide motivation, encouragement and study skills essential to academic success. Two lectures and three laboratory hours per week. A W S (3) Health Occupations Weber State Health Occupations, in cooperation with affiliated hospitals and other departments of the College, offers an expanding program for the education and training of health care workers. The programs emphasize an integration of basic sciences, liberal arts and clinical experiences which enable the graduates to make a maximum contribution to patient care as a member of the health care team. The area of Health Occupations is currently served by two departments: Nursing and Health Facility Occupations, which offer programs leading to the degrees of Associate of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, Associate of Science in Radiologic Technology, and an Associate of Science in 100 Arts, Letters and Science — Aerospace Respiratory Therapy. A Certificate of Proficiency is also offered in Licensed Practical Nursing. Through the organization of health occupations educational programs into one area, a common core curriculum is operational which fosters the team concept of health care. A series of quarterly convocations emphasizing new concepts in health care delivery will be presented. Attendance at these meetings is mandatory for all students enrolled in any of the educational programs of Health Occupations. AEROSPACE STUDIES Departmental Office, 2010 Annex Building (University of Utah) Professor and Chairman of the Department: William I. MacLach- lan, Lt. Col., USAF; Assistant Professor, Larry B. Hughes, Major, USAF. The Department of Aerospace Studies offers the two year Air Force ROTC Program leading to a Commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Male students who have two years academic work remaining before receiving their degree—either baccalaureate or graduate—meet the basic eligibility requirements. Entry into the program is selective and is normally initiated during fall quarter, sophomore year. A schedule of accomplishment is: September through December—Apply and take the USAF Officer Qualifying tests. October through January—Accomplish Air Force Physical Examination. February—Meet Air Force ROTC Selection Board. June through September—Attend Six Week Summer Field Training Unit. September-Enroll in Air Force ROTC. Students may qualify for flying officer (pilot or navigator), scientific or technical officer, or non-technical officer. Those accepted into the program must agree to: (a) Complete work for their degree. (b) Accept, if offered, a Commission in the United States Air Force. 101 |
