Machine Shorthand Continued-Continuation of Office agerial principles and techniques to the small business enterprise. Administration 061. Completion of the entire shorthand theory (3) with practice dictation. An entrance speed of a least 40 wpm. Prerequisite: Office Administration 052 and 061 or equivalent. (3) 066. Professional Vocabularies (a) Medical, (b) Legal, (c) Certified Professional Secretary—A study of specialized vocabularies used by secretaries in various specialized occupations. (3) ECONOMICS Courses of Instruction 065. Labor Relations—A course designed to acquaint labor and management with an understanding of each other's problems and of responsibilities to each other and to the public. The Taft-Hartley Act and other pertinent challenging problems will be considered. (1-4) 066. Labor Economics—Wage determination, collective bargaining, economic security, trade unionism, labor supply and demand, and other labor management problems. (1-4) 067. Labor Leadership Training—Basic mechanics of public speaking and communications, including principles of parliamentary procedure. (1-4) Department of Office Administration and Business Education Courses of Instruction 051. Beginning Personal Typewriting—Development of sustained typing power, control of figures and symbols, improvement of techniques. A speed of at least 30 words per minute should be attained. (2) 052. Beginning Personal Typewriting Continued—Review of keyboard, business letters, tabulated reports, improvement of basic skills, and intensive speed building. A speed of at least 40 words per minute should be attained. (2) 053. Intermediate Personal Typewriting—Manuscripts, special problems in letter arrangements and business forms. A speed of at least 60 words per minute should be attained. (2) 061. Machine Shorthand—Introduction to Touch Shorthand, keyboard, theory, and speed development with dictation speeds to 60 words per minute or faster. Prerequisite: Office Administration 102 or equivalent, or take concurrently. 067. Economics and Business Administration for CPS Review—Fundamental economic concepts found in the secretary's day-to-day contacts with prices, taxes, labor, social responsibilities of business; government regulations of business, sources of economic data. Business organizations and management; types of ownership; staffing of business; management controls; techniques of office supervision and management. (3) 068. Secretarial Accounting for CPS Review—Classification of accounts, interpretation of accounting data and of financial records as related to top-level secretarial work, employer's personal record keeping, payroll, petty cash, income tax reports, budgets, and notes. (3) 069. Secretarial Skills and Procedures for CPS—This course is one of a series of three courses designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to prepare the secretary to take the Certified Professional Secretary's Examination. (3) 071. Beginning Personal Shorthand—Introduction to theory of Gregg Shorthand system with emphasis upon reading and writing fluency. (3) 072. Beginning Personal Shorthand Continued—Use of the entire shorthand theory in practice dictation. A speed of at least 70 words a minute should be attained. (3) 073. Intermediate Personal Shorthand Dictation—Stenographic short cuts, abbreviations, phrases and transcription. A shorthand speed of at least 90 words a minute should be attained. (3) 115. Hy-Speed Longhand (ABC Shorthand)-A method of fast writing based on the English alphabet; abbreviations, omission, and blending of letters; dictation and transcription. Prerequisite: Office Administration 052, 102 or equivalent. This class continues into Office Administration 072 or 122. (3) 378 379 |
