Automotive Electricity—Theory, construction, principles of operation; new developments in electrical systems such as battery, lighting systems, ignition systems, starting mechanisms, generating systems; modern testing methods. Five lectures. W (5) 211. Automotive Electricity—Reconditioning and servicing, electric systems. Units covered are the battery, lighting systems, ignition systems, starting and generator systems. Modern methods of repair. Five laboratories. A W (5) 220. Tune-up—Complete synchronization of engine components, such as compression, ignition, and carburetion. Five lectures. S (5) 221. Tune-up—Reconditioning, servicing, and synchronizing of compression, ignition, and carburetion; use of latest trade- accepted methods and popular type of testing equipment. Five laboratories. S (5) 230. Automotive Air Conditioning—Principles of operation and servicing automotive air conditioning and truck refrigeration components. Two-hour lecture-laboratory combinations a week. AW (2) 240. Theory of Internal Combustion Engines—New developments, construction, operation, science, and theory of gas, diesel and airplane engines, including both the two and four stroke cycles, and the materials used in the construction and operation of engines. Actual engine demonstrations are given. Designed for students with some previous mechanical training. Two two- hour lecture-laboratory combinations a week. COSMETOLOGY The following curriculum is designed for the student who desires to become a cosmetologist and who plans to qualify for the State Board Examination at the completion of 1500 credit hours of training. At the completion of this curriculum a certificate of proficiency will be awarded. 101. Hair Dressing and Hair Shaping—Sculpture curling, hair cutting. Two lectures and three laboratories. A (5) 102. Sterilization—Care and sterilization of equipment and instruments; personal and public hygiene. Four lectures. (4) 103. Permanent Waving and Shampooing—Methods of permanent waving; process of shampooing. Two lectures and three laboratories. A (5) 104. Body Systems—Study of cells, tissues, organs, and all body systems as applied to the cosmetologist. Four lectures. A (4) 105. Scalp Treatments—Special treatments of the hair shaft and scalp. Two lectures and two laboratories. W (4) 106. Anatomy and Physiology—Structures and functions of the body as applied to the cosmetologist. Four lectures. W (4) 107. Manicuring and Hand and Arm Massage—Care of hands and nails and structure of the nail. Two lectures and three laboratories. W (5) 108. Hair Coloring—Color application, lightening and toning. Two lectures and three laboratories. W (5) 110. Care of Hair Goods (Wigs, Wiglets, Falls, etc.)- Fitting, cleaning, cutting, setting and styling. Five lecture- laboratories. S (5) 111. Facial Massage and Make Up—Facial massage and corrective make up. Two lectures and two laboratories. S (4) 112. Chemistry and Electricity—Electrical currents, wall plates and high frequency and their uses as applied to cosmetology; also, the chemistry of cosmetics as needed. Two lectures and two laboratories.
