Show Arts, Letters and Science ■ Nursing Arts, Letters and Science — Nursing granted to waive the graduation requirements of Health Education and to reduce the Social Science requirement from 12 to 10 credits. Courses of Instruction 102. Fundamentals of Nursing—Provides an orientation to the field of nursing. Concepts are introduced related to the needs of people in health and illness, and skills are developed for meeting these needs. Four lectures and two laboratory periods each week. A (6) 124. Nursing of Children and Adults—Continuation of Nursing 102. Emphasis is placed on meeting the needs of patients through an understanding of basic principles and facts relative to common pathological processes, diagnostic procedures, specialized equipment, and the administration of medications. Four lectures and two laboratory periods each week. Prerequisite: Zoology 201. W S (6) 126. Maternal and Child Nursing—The student learns to meet the needs of the individual and the family in relation to pregnancy, childbirth, neonatal and postpartal care. Three lectures and three laboratory periods each week. W S (6) 227, 228, 229. Nursing of Children and Adults-These courses are designed to prepare the student to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care of increasing complexities for patients with an interruption in their basic needs during the life cycle. At the completion of these courses, the student is able to function as a beginning staff nurse with supervision. Five lectures and five laboratory periods each week. A W S (10) 291. S (1) COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM WEBER STATE COLLEGE-UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY Weber State College in cooperation with Utah State University has extended the Associate Degree Nursing Program to the Cache Valley area. Students will be recruited from Cache County each year. These students will take the general educational requirements at Utah State University and most of the clinical experience will be in the Logan facilities. Students will register for nursing courses at the Weber State College and will graduate from Weber State College with an associate degree in nursing. Students from Cache Valley will have first priority for available spaces. Students from other areas of Utah may apply for admission to the program on a basis of available spaces. No out-of-state students will be admitted to the Cooperative Associate Degree Nursing Program. Students may apply to the Director of Nursing at Weber State College. COOPERATIVE BACCALAUREATE DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM The University of Utah College of Nursing through collaborative effort has extended the Baccalaureate Nursing Program to include the Ogden area. Students may register for general education courses at Weber State College and will register for nursing courses at the University of Utah. Facilities at McKay-Dee Hospital Center and St. Benedict's Hospital will be used for clinical courses where possible. Graduates of the program will be awarded a baccalaureate degree by the University of Utah. All courses and clinical experiences can be completed in the Ogden area. Students interested in this program should contact the coordinator for the Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Program through the Department of Nursing, Weber State College. PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAM Karen W. Beaver, Director Instructors, Karen W. Beaver, Sonia Parker; Lecturers, Joann Harding, JoAnn Balls, Leone Maas. The Practical Nursing Program offers a one-year (52 weeks) curriculum in practical nursing which qualifies the student, upon successful completion of the program, to take the Utah State Licensing examination. A student who successfully completes the training and passes the examination is eligible for registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse. The curriculum provides for theory classes offered concurrently with clinical laboratory practice in the hospitals of the area; including, McKay- Dee Hospital Center, St. Benedict's Hospital and Weber County Hospital. Students are awarded, by Weber State College, a certificate of proficiency upon successful completion of the Practical Nursing curriculum. 182 183 |
