Show Technology — Pre-Engineering scheduling of, key courses. If the student becomes irregular in his program, he should consult his advisor, since improper scheduling of courses can cause some delay in his graduation. Area Requirements—Area requirements for engineers differ significantly from those for other fields of study. Engineering students should consult the catalog of the school to which they plan to transfer, and also their advisor, concerning area requirements. Courses of Instruction 101. Engineering Drawing—Use of drawing instruments and instrument exercises, lettering practice, geometric construction and problems, orthographic projections and multiview drawing, primary auxiliary views and secondary auxiliary views. Two laboratory periods a week. A W (2) 102. Engineering Drawing—Revolution problems, sections isometric and oblique drawings, dimensioning principles and limit dimensions, threads and fasteners, working drawings, graphs and engineering graphics. Prerequisite: Pre-Engineering 101. Two laboratory periods a week. W S (2) 103. Descriptive Geometry—Orthographic projection, auxiliary view solutions, solutions by the revolution method; line, plane, and point relationships; graphical computations, polyhedrons, curved surfaces, and warped surfaces; analytic solutions and practical applications. Prerequisite; Pre-Engineering 102. One lecture and two laboratory periods a week. S (3) 140. Engineering Orientation—A W S (1) 141. Slide Rule—Operation and use of the slide rule. May be taken on an accelerated schedule. Prerequisite: Trigonometry in high school or college. (May be taken concurrently.) A W S (1) 204. Surveying—Theory of surveying, use of chain, level, and transit, traversing, computations, areas, and volumes. Prerequisite: Pre-Engineering 101 and Mathematics 106. Two lectures and two laboratory periods a week. A (4) 206. Advanced Surveying—Problems in leveling, curves, stadia, plane table, and boundary surveys. Prerequisite: Pre- Engineering 104. One lecture, two laboratories. S (3) 221. DC and Steady State AC Circuit Analysis-Ohm's law. Kirchoff s laws and network theorems. Power in DC and AC circuits. LRC circuits. Fourier Analysis of functions. Prerequisite: Mathematics 112. (May be taken concurrently). Four lectures and one laboratory. A S (5) Technology — Pre-Engineering 311, 312. Electric Circuits—Basic network conventions and topology; formulation of network equations; solutions using transform and operational methods; impedance and admittance functions; network functions, driving point and transfer admittances; steady state analysis from pole-zero configurations; amplifier networks. Prerequisites: Pre-Engineering 221 and Math 371. (May be taken concurrently.) Four lectures. (Offered 1971-72 and alternate years.) W S (4) 350. Engineering Mechanics—Principles of static stress analysis, force systems, equilibrium of structures, distributed forces, friction, moments of inertia. Prerequisites: Physics 261, (May be taken concurrently). Mathematics 112, with grade of "C" or better. W (4) 351. Strength of Materials—Continuation of Engineering 150. Stress analysis, torsion, elastic and inelastic bending, columns, beams, compound stresses, design of members. Prerequisite: Pre-Engineering 350 with grade of C or better. W (4) 352. Dynamics—Introduction to kinetics and momentum principles. Prerequisites: Engineering 350; Math 371 (May be taken concurrently), Physics 261 and 264.
