Dedication Volunteers are the breath of life in our city, and all are deeply appreciated. From time to time one stands out because of the devotion to an accepted assignment and the many hours involved in fulfilling this duty. One of these is Vernal Wardell who spent twenty-five years caring for the Slaterville Park and Bowery. He has watered the extensive lawn, mowing it for many years. He has scheduled use of the bowery and park. He was always on hand at the beginning of an activity to see that all was in order, and facilities available. At the end of the activity, he was there to see that everything had been cleaned up, and to make it ready for the next use. This past year, poor health in his 91st year, has slowed him down. Community residents and many outside patrons owe much to his dedicated work. The Marriott-Slaterville history for 2006 is dedicated in deep appreciation to Vernal G. Wardell with sincere thanks and appreciation for his many years of service. iii
